Can we talk about these pannels for a moment? (Courtesy of @/justdealingwithsomethings)
These pannels talk briefly about the W3's romantic relationships. A lot of Fandral fans do see him as bi/pan, which I 100% agree with, even though these pannels don't confirm that. It does however add standing ground to Volstagg demi, Hogun is Ace and Fandral is some form poly.
The blatant "No." from Hogun after a pannel of thinking time, is what gives us a bit of proof to the Hogun is ace aro headcannon. He thinks about it for a moment. Whether he's thinking about all of the trouble women and or men have caused in Fandral's life and the troubles that Hildegund has caused Volstagg. Hogun could also be thinking about if he had ever been intrested in a lady. Could Hogun be gay? Possibly. I'm leaning ace, because of his aloof, don't touch me personality.
Fandral, whether we like it or not, can be read as either a playboy/womanizer or poly here. He has a lot of lady friends, and it does seem like he genuinely cares for them, more than the idea of having a wife. And no, I don't think Fandral's so shallow that he wouldn’t care about his lady friends. There is a short comic, probably made to make sure a issue was long enough or just as a bonus at the end of a comic where Fandral's is literally Robin Hood and marries Maden Marian. Yes, I take this as cannon because there is another bobus comic where we see Fandral's first meeting with Volstagg, which Fandral's in the Robin Hood comic says he meets Volstagg first. I think Fandral's playboy attitude is due to him being previously married and not wanting to settle down again, too fast.
Volstagg's only issue with being married is, he's heald accountable for some of his behaviors. What brings this conversation up is in previous pannels (which I didn't think to grab), Hildegund is upset with Volstagg for going off on another adventure, leaving her to deal with the 14 kids. I'd be pretty upset if I was being left with 14 kids. I truely think Volstagg only loves Hildegund and loves having kids. He also, like any of us, needs some variety to life. While he wants freedom to do what he wants constantly, he also loves his kis and wife. Unlike Fandral he'd rather have a wife than his freedom...
...the point of this? Making these guys a balanced team. A husband who loves his wife, a 'playboy' with lots of lady friends, and someone who isn't interested in anyone.
