How? If he didn’t get a redemption arc while he was still a fully functional Dark Lord, how would that even happen off-screen, after he’d been annihilated into a mere ghost?

Let’s not forget Saruman, who rejected Gandalf’s offer to surrender and being forgiven, and after his body was destroyed, he tried to fly to Valinor as a spirit, but Manwe didn’t let him.

I think it’s stupid to cling to Tolkien’s religious beliefs as proof that the second-biggest villain in his mythology (and the biggest one from the works he actually published during his lifetime) was secretly good deep down all along. There are literally no redemption arcs in his books for any villain who fell as low as Sauron.

The only one who actually returned after switching sides was Osse, and I doubt that can really be compared to Mairon, because it happened at the very beginning of Arda’s existence, most likely long before the Elves even awoke. Who else? Boromir, who was tempted by the Ring because he wanted to save his people, didn’t kill anyone, immediately repented, and then died protecting his friends? And that’s it???

People keep ignoring the most important and very obvious fact when it comes to Tolkien’s villains and their supposed ability to be redeemed. Yes, it was possible at some point — they were capable of it — and every one of them hesitated for a brief moment. But instead of realizing they were wrong, they doubled down. Melkor, Sauron, Saruman, even Gollum. Or those like Maedhros and Maglor (though they aren’t comparable to the Dark Lords). They were all offered second chances and they rejected them.

It’s all very clear, but some people ignore it because now they’ve realized that Sauron was a pretty boy and pity him for entirely made-up reasons

The latest argument of the fandom about Gwyn's birthday has reached me and I'm a bit baffled at how people are talking about some things as though they were foolproof facts.

We all know she was conceived in Calanmai. There isn't any discussion about that. In our world, Calanmai is a welsh festival to celebrate May Day and it marks the halfway point between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. It's counterpart in the colder months is known as Samhain, November 1st.

The first thing I want to point out is that there's a retcon from ACOTAR to ACOMAF about Calanmai, or at very least, some imprecision. That is because in the first book Lucien says verbatim "Fire Night signals the official start of spring—in Prythian, as well as in the mortal world". This does create some ambiguity, as in our world, the official start of Spring is the Spring Equnox, at the end of March.

ACOMAF later introduces us to Nynsar/Starfall, which is even earlier in the Spring, and that's great! Cleared up the fact that the official start of spring =/= actual start of spring. I'm not going to dispute that but rather, alright, Calanmai is indeed May 1st.

As Fae Pregnancies last 10 months to the date would be March 1st. So Gwyn and Catrin are March Babies. Lovely little piece of math there. There's just one problem: this line of thinking assumes their mother carried the pregnancy to full term. Since we don't actually have Gwyn's exact birthday, we can't pinpoint the lenght of her mother's pregnancy and when she was born.

Life isn't rocket science. Every single day children are born way before their due date, for whatever reason, and this is particularly true to twins. Most twin pregnancies aren't, in fact, carried to the neat 40 weeks mark. In ACOWAR, Nyx himself was born way earlier than normal because of complications and after Nesta resurrected him and Feyre, he's mostly fine.

Bottom line is that no, you cannot take it as a fact that Gwyn's birthday is in March just because that matches the usual length of fae pregnancies, since we don't know long their mother was pregnant. Yes, the opposite is also true: we can't know for sure if that she was born in january. Certainty doesn't exist here for either side.

The irl shipping nonsense is not Amazon's fault in the slightest. Pairing the heroine actress and the villain actor for interviews and press photos is not baiting anyone. If someone cannot separate characters they ship from the actors playing them, that's not on the actors, showrunners, writers, producers, etc. That's on the person doing the nonsense.

I didn't once say "it's okay to be pedos irl" because "underage" is not simply a synonym for "paedophilia." And, without getting into the weeds too much (of either the clinical definitions or the legal ones) in many places an age gap of 16 and 19 is not considered underage. To be clear, you can be skeeved out all you like at the thought of a 16 year old having sex with someone over 18, and that's your right. You can attach whatever moral judgment you want to that. But it's still not paedophilia, and calling it the wrong thing dilutes the meaning of that word.

To everyone who reads this, no, I wouldn't usually bring AO3 comments to Tumblr, even ones as ignorant and rude as these, but if you're going to comment like a troll on my fics and then block me so I can't respond, then yes, I absolutely will.

And I'd still love to know why my fic got this comment from my new BFF, but the 185 other fics tagged as "underage" in their bookmarks didn't. I mean, usually I'd dismiss this as anti bullshit or baby puritan's first day on the internet, but 185 other underage fics? I mean, I think my fic is pretty special too, but I didn't know how special! So thanks, boo.

And as for the repeated "idgaf cuz I said what I said," sweetie, I know. That's your cross to bear. And given the combination of your stellar reading comprehension, your eloquence and the way you put yourself out in the world that all meets in a place that's uniquely you, that cross must be feeling pretty heavy indeed.
