Mary from the Backrooms is not as unilaterally sympathetic as the movie presents. she's a shitty therapist for not pivoting methods/metaphors or referring Clark to someone else when "roleplaying the same memory over and over" doesn't work for him. Clark chose what he chose within what was systemically available to him but him getting stuck in the Backrooms is partly on Mary presenting herself as "a window out" when she does not give him a window out in a way actually accessible to him as an individual. because internally roleplaying the same event over and over is often also a form of self-harm / destructive reinforcement for people whose trauma responses is retraumatization thru mental or physical recreations. and this repetition compulsion IS a pre-existing tendency in Clark, as shown by him stalking the house Barbara kicked him out of, again and again, and struggling with alcoholism in general, but Mary is ALSO wrong for enabling and exacerbating his ruminations like that when she has all the knowledge to NOT be willfully ignorant on how she is not the right professional for treating people with trauma responses like Clark's!
hmm if you think a fictional clan/ethnic group/species/etc. is canonically depicted as genetically "crazed" and "evil," then maybe your response should be to condemn the writing, not uncritically uphold that interpretation as evidence for your metas that akshually that group of humans/humanoids/etc. deserve state-sanctioned violence and all their fans are overreacting. that's just me though 😳
sometimes i wonder how the fuck can naruto fandom be so ableist and bioessentialist that they dont see anything wrong with a genetically inherited curse of hatred that supposedly drives a canonically oppressed, genocided clan "evil" from grief. but then i see tweets and posts with thousands of likes explicitly pathologizing fascism/bigotry/capitalism, calling them mental illnesses, and comparing them to specific stigmatized disorders, as if mentally ill people arent frequently targeted by fascists, and naruto fandom's sanism suddenly becomes a lot less shocking to me. like why do i always forget how much bigots just outright hate us lol, i should know better by now
