AI witch-hunt harms genuine artists and people in general as much as AI does, if not more.
Iβve talked more in details about this and why itβs harmful here, here, here, here and on my other blog, @writingdose, here

Some Love for the Sandman Fandom Creatorsβ¦
With more and more AI slop appearing, I thought: Why not start a reblog chain that celebrates all the incredible creators who keep this fandom alive?
Some people are new to fandom, some people donβt browse the tags and therefore hardly ever see anything thatβs not been posted by mutuals, some people are simply looking for something new. Maybe we can turn this into a creator source (no AI-generated stuff please)?
So reblog this post with a shoutout for your favourites (as an important aside: Reblog creators you appreciate whenever you can because Likes donβt really help their creations to get seen):
Fic writers
Meta writers
Fanartists
Gifmakers & Editors
Cosplayers
Crafters
Podficcers
Bookbinders
or ANY other creative person who enriches this space for you
It can be just one or several, but let us know what they do. Iβll make a start (not all of these are Sandman blogs because itβs just idiots like me who hardly blog about anything else π, but youβll find their Sandman stuff via their blog search):
Did anyone else see that twt post where the author wrote an irong lung x project hail mary fanfic and then an aerospace engineer commented on their fic saying how they loved it and the science was great, then offering extra info if the author ever wanted any. The author posted the exchange on twt and then even MORE scientists came in the comments offering to help out, ranging from molecular biologists to rocket operators to space systems engineers.
The amount of community and enthusiasm fanfic can create, the bonds it can help foster and the excitement over art and science (two subjects typically considered at opposite ends of the spectrum) is so cool to me. Also seeing everybody get excited and geek out over writing and space and characters, and genuinely feel so happy for the author!! idk man i just think humans are cool sometimes
Look, I'm going to be honest, I don't care whether people feeding other fans' fanfiction into AI is "legal" or "illegal".
What it is, is rude, entitled, and disrespectful of your fellow fans.

Ok, so I didn't think I needed to clarify this, but apparently I do.
Fanfiction and fandom space is for everyone. It doesn't fucking matter whether you have been here for years or if heated rivalry is your first ever fandom; You are welcome, and we are glad to have you. We appreciate you sharing your stories and art. Sometimes you will get comments that try to help you understand the tagging system- that is fine. I still get them sometimes because even after years on AO3, I still get confused. Do not let that make you feel bad.
That being put aside, there are some rules for fandom spaces that the HR fandom (and not just people who are new to fandoms) seem to forget. If you don't like something, don't fucking read it. Nobody is forcing you to read a fanfiction based on a trope you don't like. Nobody is forcing you to interact with jokes you deem stupid. If you don't like something, either ignore it or block the user. I have seen far too many instances of people reporting works simply because they didn't like the author or the premise of the fic. That is embarrassing, and they should all feel ashamed of themselves. The same goes for any self-absorbed asshole who thinks it's ok to leave hate comments on other people's works.
I write pretty tame stuff, so most of the hate comments I get are antisemitic bullshit. I can handle that- I've been a queer jew on the internet since I was 12, very little fases me anymore- But I do not want to imagine what a little girl who is just starting to post her art is going to feel if she gets the same hate comments and threats I get on a weekly basis. So let me be unbelievably clear; if you see a fic you don't like, and instead of ignoring it or blocking the user, you leave nasty comments, you are a low-life scum, and I pray you'll never be accepted into any fandom space ever. It doesn't matter if the author wrote about something illegal or immoral. It doesn't matter if it's a ship you don't like. It doesn't matter if they are from a country you don't like or if the charcters are OOC; none of it matters because you do not own fandom space, it does not exist solely for you, and you should just shout your mouth and get on with your life.
Have a good day.
SHIPPING IS LOVE, NOT HATE π
If your ship brings you joy, it deserves love and respect no matter what anyone says.
REBLOG if youβre proud to be a proshipper and stand by your faves!
