Fandoms love to frivolously throw around "well it's a spectrum" as an excuse to ship and sexualize canonical aspec characters

But the moment an actual aspec person headcanons a character that has canonically dated or had sex as aspec it's "they can't be aro/ace, they dated/had sex with someone!"

Gee it's almost as if they don't actually care about the nuances of being on the aro or ace spectrums and just hate that we "get in the way" of their shipping and smut

since aromantic is trending rn I wanted to point just how weird it is to me that whenever two characters are close to each other in an explicitly non-romantic way fandom immediately labels them as “family-coded” “siblings” “parent/child”

Like yeah I get the idea but at some point it feels like people just. Don’t view platonic relationships as something anyone would ever prioritize or risk their lives for, and has to be replaced with something *more*- if not romance, then family.

If you are going to write an aro and/or ace character in a romantic and/or sexual relationship you need to put in the effort to show the unique perspective those characters would have regarding these topics instead of writing them like allo characters and waving away scrutiny by saying "well aro people can still date" "well ace people can still have sex" "well aroace people can still be in relationships"

i'm not saying you can't ship aro characters at all ever under any circumstances whatsoever no matter what, i'm just saying it hurts so incredibly deeply that the ONLY aromantic character in the series made it into not one but TWO ships in the 2026 tumblr ship thingie when there are countless other romances to consider with allo characters from the same source. and i do in fact believe my anger at that fact is more than justified
