Fall Garden 2020
Sunday, July 26, 2020
Today Lettuce Leaf (Salad Bowl Blend), Broccoli (Belstar), Bok Choy (Toy Choy), and Pink Lady Radish seeds were spread, organized, and demarcated into portions of my soil. Planting has been done in an attempt to avoid notice, but to shed more non-metaphorical light on the seedlings, privacy has been discarded. Some may not be the right season, but they have found a home at a time of transition that may allow for growth before the tides shift to frosty nights as the days grow shorter and light slips past us. My soil is sturdy and nutritious and will do all it can to support these seeds as they begin to crack open, setting roots before revealing their cotyledon leaves. These seeds and the plants they will become are frost tolerant, but Chicago has its own rhythm and knowledge, and they will be the judge that decides how best to transition from one season into the next, an early Fall? or a slower ease into the wintery months ahead?
