hello brief history of the mojave outpost [not canon in brackets]
In 2253, 38 citizens were massacred by a band of Mojave raiders [that had come onto NCR territory through the I-15 corridor]. Being that this grueling bottleneck was also the only functional way in and out of the Mojave Desert and marked the effective border of NCR territory, it caused immense political alarm and led to the sudden ejection of President Joanna Tibbett. A subsequent rapid push into the state of Nevada followed the election of President Wendell Peterson, [and an NCR outpost was staffed at the I-15 Border Checkpoint before the end of 2253.]
[While frequently used by Desert Rangers in the area due to the convenience of its location, the Border Checkpoint was established as NCR territory. First contact with the Desert Rangers has never been recorded or confirmed, but contact was known to have been well established at the Border Checkpoint as early as 2255, with trade and other collaboration rapidly increasing in frequency as Legion pressure intensified. The I-15 Border Checkpoint adopted the official name of NCR Ranger Outpost Mojave, or the Mojave Outpost, during the Unification Treaty of 2271.]
With the Ranger Unification Treaty signed at the Outpost in 2271, the discovery of a fully functional Hoover Dam in 2274, the destruction of the Divide (the only other lifeline into the Mojave) in 2277, the impending war, and all the subsequent flow in and out of the region, the Mojave Outpost quickly became and remains a highly influential location throughout the course of the Mojave Campaign.
