Building upon the success of Falcon 9 rocket 🚀 (powered by 9 Merlin 🧙‍♂️ rocket engines), SpaceX upgraded its reach into outer space with the Falcon Heavy rocket (top panel). . The Falcon family of rockets are named after the Millennium Falcon in Star Wars. The Falcon Heavy still utilizes SpaceX’s reusability model, and its two booster rockets 🚀 are capable of landing on drone platforms (bottom right). . What a spectacle it was to watch (and feel) the world’s most powerful rocket launch from Cape Canaveral on Tuesday morning at 2:30am. • Some of the payloads on the rocket included The Planetary Society’s solar-sailing LightSail 2 spacecraft, NASA’s Deep Space Atomic Clock, Defense Department satellites, and the cremated remains of 152 people. • This image wouldn’t have happened without krazy glue. Earlier in the day, just as we arrived at the launch pad with other photographers setting up remote cameras, the mirror on my Nikon D800 came unglued from the mechanism. Over five years of owning my camera and countless shoots I’ve done with it—it chose the afternoon of a rocket launch that I was on assignment for to break on me. With no camera shops around, I decided I had to try to fix it. So, on the floor of the imax theater in the Kennedy Space Center a few hours before the launch, I reattached the mirror to my camera with krazy glue.
