The dirt road that was muddied by a spring rainstorm connects Faizabad to Palang Darah and the village Ayl Darah, where Hafiza's family is from.

Hafiza gazes out of the window of the small home near Faizabad where she took refuge after the Taliban seized her village in 2019. When one of her four sons joined the Taliban, Hafiza begged his commander to let him come home. “You’ve given two sons to the government and one to [anti-Taliban] militia,” she says he replied. “This one will be ours.”

🇦🇫🌏⚠️ Magnitude 5.8 Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan

On April 3, 2026, a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 was recorded in Afghanistan.

📍 The epicenter was located in Badakhshan, approximately 68 km from Faizabad and about 41 km from Jarm. The hypocenter was at a depth of around 186–190 km.

🌍 Tremors were felt across a wide area, including Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and northern India.

⚠️ Despite the considerable depth, there were reported impacts: in Kabul, 8 people died due to a building collapse, and there are additional injuries reported.
