Second Saturday Service in Philly Parks
This fall, Parks & Rec and the Fairmount Park Conservancy launched a new volunteer program aimed at restoring Philly's greenest spaces. Volunteers joined us every second Saturday to plant trees, remove invasives, and clean waterways in parks across the city– from the woods of the Wissahickon to the lakes of FDR.
In its first season, volunteers:
planted 121 new trees and shrubs
rescued another 58 young trees from smothering vines
removed 180 pounds of trash from watershed parks.
Together, we explored hidden trails, learned about the local environment, and helped preserve Philly's much-needed forests. Â
We're excited to continue the program into the new year! Volunteers are invited to work in the woods with us every second Saturday, hitting a different site every month. Projects are led by Parks & Rec and Conservancy staff members. We bring all the tools and guidance, and you bring the energy! Â
Please join us at our next Second Saturday Service project at Lemon Hill in Fairmount Park! Sign up and learn more. And check back often! New projects are added throughout the year.Â
