Jasmine is very good at tree climbing and usually would be fine. However there are times that she will get the wrong branch and fall which is now happening. Cody sees this as the opportunity to be her hero and catch her... although he forgets the problem with that until it is too late. Good news? Jasmine does land safe thanks to him and is very grateful to the boy that has been after her. Bad news? Cody had to get squashed to do that.

It was supposed to be impressive. Cody saw Jasmine high up in the tree, balanced like she was born there, and thought, This is my moment.

Then the branch cracked.

“Jasmine! Don’t worry, I’ve got you!” he yelled, arms out, confidence way too high for someone five-foot-nothing.

She dropped. Gravity laughed.

A blur of brown hair and panic later, Jasmine landed safely—mostly because Cody broke her fall with his entire body.

“Cody! Are you okay?” she gasped, rolling off him.

He gave a thumbs-up from the dirt. “Totally fine! I was aiming for the heroic catch-and-roll. Just… skipped the ‘roll’ part.”

Jasmine tried not to laugh, but the sound slipped out. “You really didn’t think this through, did you?”

“Thinking’s overrated,” he groaned, wincing. “Catching beautiful survivalists? That’s instinct.”

Her cheeks pinked as she offered a hand to pull him up. “You’re ridiculous,” she said, smiling despite herself.

“Yeah,” Cody admitted, standing shakily. “But I did catch you.”

Jasmine hesitated, then brushed a leaf from his hair. “You did. Thanks, hero.”
