"Come on... Come on, Whumpee, wake up! Please. I'm here for you. Here to get you out! But we have to go now!"
Caretaker's soft but intense pleading barely got a response. Whumpee was completely out, curled up on the harsh stone floor of the cell. Every speck of bare skin was covered in bruises or scrapes. And they were splayed out in a way that made Caretaker suspect in horror that they'd been tossed carelessly to the floor where they hadn't bothered, or more likely, hadn't been able to move their limbs in a more... comfortable position. Caretaker shook them lightly, pulling them to lie on their back. "Come on... Wake up!"
"You're too late, Caretaker." A voice behind them called, eerily calm.
Caretaker whipped around at the voice and the panic of being discovered turned icy cold in their veins when the implications hit them.
"What?" they croaked, looking at Whumper, who casually blocked the door to the cell, languidly leaning against the frame. They looked back at Whumpee. "You don't-- Are they--?!" Their voice raised as they stumbled over their fears.
"Oh," Whumper held out his hands, placating. "No, no, don't worry, they're not dead." His voice dipped to a growl as he looked the small figure over. "They should be so lucky... No," he said, tone returning to his casual smugness. "I mean, your rescue couldn't be more ill-timed. If you'd been a few hours earlier... You might have even run into each other," he finished with a devious grin.
Caretaker's expression turned from relief to utter confusion.
Whumper nudged himself away from the frame with his shoulder and slowly advanced on the pair. "You see, they tried to escape. Just this afternoon. And what we have here is... well, the consequences of that stupid stunt. Even if they were awake, even if they could walk..." His grin widened, turning from devious to unsettling as he bared his teeth. "I'm not sure they would dare set another foot outside of this cell, not even if you begged them or tried to drag them along. They were, ah, quite sorry for their mistake, believe me."
"You rotten bastard," Caretaker managed to get out from behind grit teeth.
Whumper gave a graceful nod in acknowledgement, as if accepting the compliment. He backed away slowly until he stood outside the cell again. "You got what you came for, to help your friend. So help them," he added in a growl. "They need it. And you'll have all the time to try and convince them to attempt an escape. Again."
He slammed the door shut and parted with his final, sly words.

I'm a fan of double-meanings in whump dialogue--especially if the phrase can be said by caretaker and whumper.
"Put down the gun." - caretaker soothing a defensive living weapon whumpee / whumper thwarting caretaker's rescue attempt
"Shhhh." - a parent caretaker consoling a young whumpee after nightmares / whumper gagging a crying whumpee
"Oh my god, you're bleeding!" - caretaker upon discovering a stoic whumpee's hidden wounds / a sadistic whumper mocking whumpee after a brutal torture session
“Your defiance amuses me,” said Whumper with a grin, “everything I’ve done and you still have that fiery spirit.”
“Oh just you wait,” Whumpee spat, “Caretaker will come for me, and when they do, you’ll be sorry you ever laid a hand on me!”
“Oh really now? Say, just out of curiosity, you don’t mean this Caretaker right?” Whumper handed Whumpee a photo.
Whumpee felt their heart drop while the room around them seemed to turn into liquid as they stared down at the photo.
No, it-it can’t be! Whumpee thought frantically.
There, in the photo, was Caretaker. Slumped unconscious against a wall in a room similar to Whumpee’s, bloodied and bruised.
“Aww, don’t look so upset Whumpee, they had a pretty good rescue plan,” Whumper chuckled, “too bad there were more guards than they were planning on. Now that you’re both here though, we can have some real fun.”
Someone searching for Whumpee. They can hear them calling their name just beyond the door. But Whumper has a hand to their mouth and a knife to their throat.

Characters being used as bait is one of my favorite whump, being caught between wanting rescue and hoping nobody shows up
Bonus points if they themselves got caught while keeping someone else out of harm’s way
Yesss 👏 Even better if somebody does show up and ends up failing to rescue them and getting captured too, so the bait has to feel the guilt for successfully reeling them in
Character A is kidnapped and when Character B comes to rescue them, they remove the blindfold to see that A no longer has eyes
(sorry i can’t word it better. Or if it’s too much)
where my mind went with this is that Character A was the only one with the knowledge of how to break out of wherever they were being held captive, so when Character B announces they've come to help A escape, A's heart just sinks because now they're both trapped.
"It's going to be okay, A. You still remember the way out, right?" said B, untying the rope around A's hands.
"B, you need to go," A pleaded.
"Not without you. I need you. We're getting out of this together."
"B, we can't." A flinched as the blindfold was removed from their face. "I can't. I'm sorry."
The door creaked. Neither of them needed their sight to know who was standing in the frame. Whumper stepped forward, smug written all over their face. But that wasn't the worst thing.
"Looking for these?" they grinned.
For a sick, fleeting moment, B was glad that A couldn't see this. Whumper was holding out A's eyes in their bare hands.
"Why don't I leave them by the exit?" Whumper said. "A little reward for if you ever make it out of here. Which you won't. Oh, don't look at me like that B. I can always take yours too if you don't like what you're seeing."
Caretaker was supporting Whumpee’s weight while dragging them along the side of the road. Their car had broken down about a mile back and it would only be a matter of time until Whumper discovered they were on foot.
Whumpee whimpered and buried their face in Caretaker’s chest. “Leave me behind,” they slurred. “You can make it. Get help…”
“No way,” Caretaker forced out between laboured breaths. “Shut up and save your strength.” Caretaker stopped and looked around. “We need to get off the road… C’mon.”
Whumpee stumbled along blindly as Caretaker lead them into the dark forest, their feet getting caught on fallen branches and roots. Time blurred as Whumpee focused only on staying upright, until Caretaker stopped.
In front of them a river tore through the forest, with a wooden bridge suspended above. The wood was old and worn, with more than one piece already broken in. The entrance had been blocked off with a Danger sign.
“Doesn’t look safe,” Whumpee murmured and tightened their grip on Caretaker’s shoulders.
“It’s really not,” a voice drawled from behind. They froze.
No. No, it couldn’t be. They had been ahead, they shouldn’t be able to be found…
But behind them Whumper leaned against a tree with a grin. “But go ahead,” they said softly. “Try getting across. Humour me.”
Whumpee’s knees gave out. They failed.
