The one night he had to space his clothes he had to be at his messiest. Feeling his phone vibrates he sees that Jackson's messaged him. "Shit.." Opening his phone he looks at his messages.
It wasn’t that unusual to have a crush on one of your friends. It happened at one point in just about every ones life. What wasn’t as common is for that crush to extend for years beyond high school into adulthood. Jeon Jungkook was one of the few and even though people would long since say his crush was more than that, he refused to see it as anything more. His one friend, Dongho thought he was delusional but Jungkook knew deep down that if he was to let himself believe it was more than some silly crush, that he would ultimately and royally screw himself over as well as his friendship and his future. That wasn’t something he was willing to do. So instead as the days turned into weeks, weeks into months and months into years he just watched his best friend Min Yoongi bounce from empty relationship to empty relationship. They never lasted very long, either Yoongi would get bored, involved with another guy or girl depending on who appealed to him the most at that moment or the two were more like conveniences for each other from the get go.
No matter what though Min Yoongi was almost always taken. Single in any sense of the word was practically foreign to the man. As Jungkook had learned one day. “Hyung, why don’t you ever just stay single for awhile? It’s not like you need anyone.” He asked spinning his stool from side to side while watching the shorter man reorganize the bottles of alcohol behind the bar. This was something that Jungkook should be doing considering the fact that he was the bartender and Yoongi was just a friend and a customer. Yoongi always complained about the way Jungkook did it so somewhere along the line he had just started organizing them himself. Yoongi didn’t stop his work but continued while answering Jungkook, “Single? I have.” He made the comment without thinking. Jungkook set his elbows on the bar and rested his chin in his hands. “When?” There wasn’t a time that he could recall since high school and it had been almost five years since then. “Oh, you know right after that one guy, Min Ki or was it Junsu?” Jungkook could only roll his eyes at this. “Minhwa, you mean Minhwa.” He watched as Yoongi snapped his fingers like he had figured this out all by himself when in fact he had no idea who that was.
“You were single for forty-eight hours, even a kangaroo can manage that.”Â
This comment received an immediate response, Yoongi turned around hands on the counter behind him. “Yah! Jeon Jungkook what is that supposed to mean?” Of all the things that the younger male had chosen to say a kangaroo, which made absolutely no sense. “It just means hyung that forty-eight hours, two days, isn’t something to be proud of. Anyway, this is off topic, answer the question.” Jungkook spun the stool in the opposite direction and hopped off. He walked around his bar and shooed his friend off, ignoring the grumbling he could hear. Once Yoongi had successfully taken up the space Jungkook was just occupying, he stopped grumbling. “I just like being with someone Kookie. You know how it is.” If Yoongi had only been speaking of companionship in more than just a physical and convenient manner then Jungkook’s ears wouldn’t have turned red. “Yes, I know what you mean.” It was time to drop the subject otherwise they would be entering territory that Jungkook didn’t want to enter. Speaking of his love life was off limits. Which he did have one every now and then but they were never satisfying enough. “When is Jimin picking you up?” The bar was getting ready to open and Jungkook didn’t need Yoongi stealing his customers out the door and into his bed. Frankly he preferred the tips he got.
Just then the door opened and in walked the other man that was just being spoken of in jeans and a baggy graphic tee. One that even Jungkook deemed as unfashionable and fashion was not on his list of cares in the slightest. He couldn’t understand Yoongi’s reasoning behind picking up this one but the kid was a nice one. “Hey, Jimin.” He greeted the current man who got to lean in and peck Yoongi on the lips. This elicited a smile from Yoongi, the kind that Jungkook loved and hated all at the same time. Something he would never let his friend know of. “Hi, Jungkook-sshi. Ready to get rid of him?” It was these kinds of comments that made him really like the guy. Jungkook chuckled and nodded. Yoongi on the other hand smacked both of them. “Whom is ready to get rid of whom? I’ll just get rid of the two of you.” He said as he stood up and walked past his friend and boyfriend. Leaving Jungkook and Jimin to exchange looks before Jimin caught up to Yoongi, slipping his hand in Yoongi’s and bumping their shoulders together. Since Yoongi was just joking around, he wasn’t a diva after all, a wave from both, Jungkook received. “See ya later, Kookie.”
“Bye, guys.” He wasn’t sure how long that relationship was going to last but he hoped for Jimin it would last longer than Yoongi’s previous track record.
A couple weeks later Jungkook was working his shift at the bar, flirting with a customer without having to do much. Was he interested? To an extent, the guy was attractive and had a really nice voice. It was probably the main reason why Jungkook even put in a little effort to flirt, though it also was a way to distract himself. The day had been one of those blah kind of days that you just wanted to end. Unfortunately for Jungkook he had a long night ahead of him that maybe would be getting better after he got off work. He was handing the man, Shinwoo his Long Island only to feel a hand touching his, their eyes met and the meaning was clear to them both. So, maybe the night would be getting better. Jungkook removed his hand and went to pay a little attention to his other customers. Jimin was among them which surprised him. “Jimin, what are you doing here?” The man was looking down at the bar where his hands were resting, but he brought his head up to look at the bartender. “For a drink.” This was odd, for the time that Jungkook knew Jimin, short as it was, it was still longer than others Yoongi had dated, the man hadn’t been one for drinking. He didn’t even need to ask what was wrong, that was obvious.
Glancing over at Shinwoo he gave him an apologetic look because now attention with going to be all on Jimin. Sadly, the good times he was going to have seemed to be slipping through his fingers, though Shinwoo indicated with a raise of his glass that he didn’t mind. A slight nod was given before his attention was turned back to Jimin. “What will it be?” Jungkook went to getting Jimin’s whiskey as it was requested, setting it down in front of him he waited to be told what was going on. Instead, he saw Jimin down it as a shot, not what one was supposed to do, push the glass toward him asking for another. Jungkook filled it again and told him to slow down. He was just about to ask what was going on when Jimin spun around on the stool, pointing with his glass in direction of the pool tables and almost spilling his whiskey all over his arm. Following along the invisible line Jimin had made only to see that he must have been completely oblivious when he was working aka flirting earlier. There was Yoongi playing pool and expertly showing off how he knew how to use a pool stick to some guy that neither Jimin nor Jungkook had seen before but unlike Jimin, Jungkook was used to this. “Oh, I see.” Pulling the bottle of whiskey onto the counter he slid it over to Jimin, telling him he’d be right back. Jungkook tended to his other customers who were growing impatient, gave Shinwoo his phone number thinking it couldn’t hurt and he wouldn’t mind hearing that smooth sexy voice another time. Once he grabbed another worker from the back, Jungkook made his way back to Jimin, who had drank a substantial amount of whiskey. He took the bottle back and joined Jimin. The two went back and forth, in Jungkook’s attempt to console the completely depressed man while thinking he was fine considering his tolerance level was quite high. Somewhere along the way Jungkook passed that level and became drunk right along with Jimin. They had also started on the second bottle of whiskey. They both started speaking of Yoongi. “He’s so pretty Jungkook-sshi.” Jimin was slurring his words and couldn’t use big ones anymore but neither of them noticed. Jungkook nodded, “He is and the way he’ll crinkle up his nose when he’s doing something he gives all of his concentration to…” The more Jimin and Jungkook went back and forth on all of the things they liked about Yoongi, the more Jungkook talked and the more Jimin listened.
Jimin eventually waved his hand with his glass spilling some of the amber liquid out of his glass onto the bar and his shirt, “Wait, wait, wait..Jungkook, you like Yoongi too don’t you?” Even though they were both intoxicated, forgetting the rest of the world, Jimin could figure that out. Jungkook clambered over the bar, which it was surprising he didn’t knock anything over and sat next to Jimin. Slinging an arm over Jimin’s shoulder, he failed to notice all the attention the two had now achieved. “Ji-Jimin, let me tell you a secret.” He leaned in towards his fast made buddy, speaking into his ear. Jungkook thought he was lowering his voice but in his intoxicated state that wasn’t the case. Instead he was speaking slightly above a normal decibel level, which was an improvement from how loud he was just a moment ago. “I loooovvveeeee Yoongiii.” He started to nod a few times. “I do. I mean, I really do but…” Jungkook leaned away, his hand still on Jimin’s shoulder pulling him sideways a bit. He lost his balance briefly but managing to stay on his barstool. He brought up a finger to his lips that missed, moving past them, he quickly corrected that and pressed his finger against his lips. “but shhh that’s a secret. You can’t tell Yoongi hyung, okay Jimin?” Jungkook patted Jimin’s back twice and then reached for the bottle to take a quick swig. Jimin of course mumbled a yes, though he was almost passed out with his head resting on the bar. Two more minutes and he began snoring away.
The swig that Jungkook was going to take didn’t happen because his lips continued to meet air. He looked around to see what had happened. His eyes needed a moment but they soon focused on the person standing next to him who had taken his bottle. Jungkook reached for it, “Yah!” lost his balance and slipped off the barstool, falling into the arms of the sturdy man in front of him. “Mm, you’re warm.” Jungkook mumbled into the chest of said warm person. “Jonghwa, call a cab for Jimin-ah please. I’ll deal with,” the man looked down at the main bartender in his arms, “this one.” The actually working bartender, Jonghwa did as was requested and took care of Jimin. Jungkook was trying to stand on his own and after a foot slipped he found his footing did so but not without the warm mans help. The man set the very nearly empty second bottle of whiskey on the bar and wrapped his arm around Jungkook’s waist. “Come on Kookie, I’ll take you home.” Jungkook was starting to get sleepy the alcohol was really kicking in now. “You sound familiar, Shinwoo?” He turned his head to look at the person directing him out of the bar and into a taxi. “No, Kookie.” He wasn’t sure who it was because there had been too much moving around and decided to just close his eyes, leaning on the shorter man. They were sitting in the cab when Jungkook heard the man give an address that sounded familiar but wasn’t his. He didn’t care though because he was comfortable. “I like your voice, you should speak more.” It wasn’t long after that, with the rocking motion of the cab and the soothing voice, he fell asleep.
Jungkook woke up the next morning to bright lights that shot a blinding pain into his head and then the pounding didn’t stop. “Ugh…” he moaned throwing his arm over his eyes that he had squeezed shut after the first hint of light had penetrated through. He stretched out and slowly started to open his eyes again, this time was better but it still was painful. Sitting up he looked around and was confused as to his surroundings. This was not his apartment, no, not in the slightest. “There’s water and medication to your left on the nightstand.” A voice Jungkook never thought he could forget said.
“Hyung, shh.” Everything was too loud. He scratched his head as he looked to his left finding his savior. Picking up the pills he popped them in one at a time as he swallowed them with gulps of water. Then he finished the glass of water, since his mouth was more than parched. “How did I get here…” Jungkook looked around once more and found he was only in his boxers in Yoongi’s bed. His eyes grew wide in surprise. “and what am I doing in your bed?” The sheets were all messy and he could see his clothes were tossed on the floor, which didn’t help him to comprehend the situation at all. “We didn’t-“ A scoff was made cutting him off. “Please Kookie, like I would do anything with someone who kept calling me Shinwoo all night.” Upon hearing the beginning of Yoongi’s words Jungkook nodded, regretting that movement as it sent more pounding even harsher though his head. “Right. Of course you wouldn’t-wait Shinwoo? Who is Shinwoo?” His eyes met Yoongi’s wanting an explanation. Yoongi stood up from the chair he was sitting in and walked over to his closet. Opening it he found a shirt that should be decent for Jungkook to fit in and some shorts that might work as well. “That’s what I’d like to know. I couldn’t be sure if I’m the one with the sexy voice or he was. Frustrating, you know?” Hearing these words only embarrassed Jungkook who was mentally cursing himself for obviously drinking way too much the night before. “I’m sorry, hyung.” Jungkook looked down at his hands that were sitting in his lap on top of the white sheets.
Yoongi brought the clothes over and sat right next to Jungkook on his bed, setting the clothes beside them. “Mm, I’m sure you are and you know how you can make it up to me?” If it wasn’t for the bad hangover that Jungkook was having right now he would have been suspicious of Yoongi but that wasn’t the case and he didn’t notice a thing. “Of course, Min.” Yoongi stretched out his legs in front of him and leaned back on his elbows. “Would you like to kiss me?” Yoongi asked the question so casually but Jungkook’s jaw needed to be picked up from the floor. “Ah..Um..hyung what kind of question is that?” Jungkook couldn’t bring his eyes up to meet Yoongi’s. He didn’t see the little smirk that was on his friends face. “You see if you wanted to I wouldn’t mind.” Jungkook didn’t know what to think of this whole conversation. He was trying to wrack his brain to remember what had happened the night before, but he couldn’t recall anything with Yoongi in it. Nothing at all. “I-I don’t know…” Jungkook kept his head down looking at his hands but he felt Yoongi shift positions. His best friend was suddenly extremely close to him. Yoongi had not only sat up, scooted closer but his finger went under Jungkook’s chin, lifting it up to look at him. “And if I wanted to kiss you? Could I?” The way Yoongi was gripping his chin between his thumb and forefinger Jungkook couldn’t pull away without being completely rude so he didn’t do anything but close his eyes and swallow the lump in his throat. He opened them again and said, “I guess.” The words that were coming out of his mouth weren’t words that Jungkook even realized he had spoken. His heart was beating too fast and too hard that he was sure that Yoongi could hear it. His best friend just looked at Jungkook for a moment before he slowly leaned in, pressing his lips against Jungkook’s. It was short, sweet and enough to make Jungkook flush.
When Yoongi pulled back he smiled. He leaned back on his elbows once more. Jungkook was still in shock and just sat there staring with a goofy grin on his face that he didn’t realize he was wearing. “I never really thought of anything happening with you before but if what you said last night to Jimin was true Kookie then I wouldn’t mind trying things with you and I mean really trying. That is, if you want me as your boyfriend?” Jungkook knew that Yoongi had never really tried in any of his relationships. He had never truly wanted someone to be his partner. He just wanted a form of companionship you could only get with commitment attached. So, for him to be saying these things to Jungkook meant a lot. Jungkook looked up at his hyung with disbelief clearly written all over his face. “What did I say?” Jungkook couldn’t believe he would have said anything to anyone about Yoongi and his silly little crush. Hearing the name Jimin though started to spark his sketchy memories. It took him a moment but then the light bulb flickered on and he blushed once again. “Oh! You heard all of that?” It was one thing to say he liked his hyung, it was quite another to tell the freshly dumped one that he was in love with his ex-boyfriend. Honestly, there had to have been something wrong with him the night before to have let himself go like that. Jungkook let his head drop into his hands and he slowly moved it from side to side in despair. “I did, loud as it was, probably the whole bar did. Is it true, Kookie? Do you love me?” Jungkook nodded slightly and then slowly brought his head out of his hands and looked at his best friend who was about to become something more than that. “I have for a long time, Min. A long time.”
Yoongi had at some point through all of this sat up again and now he looked as if he might lean in for another kiss but instead he spoke. “If you expect to kiss your boyfriend again you better go wash up and brush your teeth. You reek of alcohol and smoke, Kookie.” Yoongi picked up the clothes he had set aside earlier and dropped them in his new boyfriends lap. Jungkook just blinked and then looked at the clothes sitting in his lap. Upon feeling the push he received from Yoongi he chuckled and picked up his clothes “Alright, alright,” getting up and making his way into the bathroom. “Hey Kookie, are you sure you still want me to be single for more than forty-eight hours?” Jungkook had just turned on the shower but heard the question loud and clear, his head popped out of the doorway. “Don’t you dare Min Yoongi.” He growled before hopping into the shower, quite excited to start his day, ready for anymore changes that were to come his way.
