We Scratched a Card and Ended Up Forgetting We Live in a City Long Hunter State Park was never on our radar. Then it showed up on one of our RIO cards, and just like that, we were driving clear across Nashville on a random Saturday in April to a trail we'd never once thought about, despite living here for years. The walk circles Couchville Lake. Paved, shaded, a little over two miles, free the entire way. The water was down when we went, and it somehow made everything better, exposed banks, docks sitting higher than usual, that stripped down look a lake gets when it's showing you more than it normally does. The wildflowers were everywhere. And the squirrels were having an absolute moment, full sprint up and down every tree like the whole park belonged to them. We just stood there and watched. You're still technically in the city the entire walk. It does not feel like it.
