I drew this around the time he won the NXT title (just had to do it). I wanted to work with flesh tones in low lighting (because that’s his thing with his entrance and everything). but I haven’t really had much experience doing that. So instead of working on a full sized person I decided to experiment with low lighting on a chibi instead. I’m quite pleased with the amount of detail I was able to get into the coloring, his tattoos, and the title on such a small scale. Lastly when Aleister was cutting promos on challenging Andrade for the title, his talk about the NXT Championship being the devil on his back really stuck with me, so I tried to illustrate that. Now he’s got the title, now he’s conquered his devil (maybe even “absorbed” it into himself).

As part of the MP1 project I am exploring the possibility of sustainable printing as it is a coherent fit with the concept of Carbon Capture.

As part of Photo Oxford’s Fabric of Photography: Material Matters, Dr Karel Doing ran a phytogram workshop which I attended.

Sustainable products, soda crystals, are used to develop the images. The process is not completely sustainable as chemical fix is used until a reliable alternative can be found.

I really like the process and particularly the fact that it is sustainable. It can be done on location without having to remove marine plants that are on the beach, although, you will have to take seagrass from the sea.

Watercolour practice: Abstract, layers.

On the first day of our Final Major Project, we were given the task to of creating collages under certain time constraints ( for example, a collage was to be completed in 5 minutes, another in 4, 3 minutes and so forth). To do this, we were given free reign of our composition and techniques. Because of the time constraints, we had to utilise the use of techniques that use less time, such as ripping the photos, rather than precisely cutting them out. This allows the image to have texture and contrast.

In my collages, I wanted to explore with techniques that I had yet to use, and so  tries to use some in at least one of my collages. In one of my collages, I wanted to try drawing on it, and in quite a few, I wanted to utilise text and type to illustrate choices that one needs to make in some video games that allow the player to build their own story throughout the game. With the type, I also wanted to use Moral Psychology with the audience by listing out questions such as : “Why am I doing this?” , as moral psychology looks into why people do what they do, their moral intentions and their way of choosing the most appropriate outcome. This task has allowed me to further explore different techniques ( such as fragmentation and collage) and approaches that I can use in my Final Major Project. it has also allowed me to be more adventurous with the techniques that I can use, such as ripping, and changing the composition used within the image.
