They debuted onย April 23rd, 2017ย underย SM ENTERTAINMENT as the fourth and only female sub-unit of the unlimited member concept group NCT. Multiple members debuted within separate units under NCT before making their debut in XLIGHT during their P!NK era.ย
The individual members of the group faced heavy amounts of backlash when they made their original debuts in NCT, but when the first all female unit was announced in 2017, both fans and the general public were excited for the debut. Due to XLIGHT debuting between two other units' comebacks, they didn't see too much success with their debut song 'P!NK' despite the song being well enjoyed by the public. The girls began to gain notable traction when they had their first few comebacks in 2017 and became considered a monster rookie group after being nominated for multiple Rookie of the Year awards.
In the late months of 2018, SM confirmed that XLIGHT's lineup will be expanding with new members throughout the years.ย Since the group's debut in 2017, they have gained only three members and there are no foreseeable plans to add any more members.
Over the years,ย XLIGHTย has been known to have their own distinct music style that sits somewhere between the style of 127 and Dream. They have been praised for having such diverse concepts each comeback but still managing to keep their unique but recognizable sound. XLIGHT is considered the most popular NCT unit in the eyes of the general public but according to the fans, the girls are the third most popular unit.

Minseok laughed beside her and quickly hugged her, before closing the door. The smell of rice in the air indicated her Kyungsoo was also here. She took her shoes off and waited for Minseok to guide her around his new house.ย
"Is Somi here?" Kyungsoo asked from the kitchen.ย
"Do you think I was going to lose the party?" she answered him laughing. She went next to him and rubbed his back as he was occupied chopping some onions. "Are we the first ones?"ย

"I thought I'd be late! Sehun called me telling me to hurry up because they were here." she told them and the boys laughed.ย

When he first told her about moving out of the dorm, as much as she tried to look happy, she knew it'd be hard to get used to not having him around as much anymore. But, if he was happy with that, then she was able to put her feeling aside and support him in this new chapter.ย

So, that's what she was forgetting. Since Minseok texted them, this morning, Somi got that familiar feeling of letting something pass that she shouldn't, and now she knew what it was: Minseok's gift.
Kyungsoo laughed and shook his head.
"Oh, my God. I didn't. Stop laughing!" Somi slapped his shoulder and covered her mouth, shocked. "What do I do now?"
"Ayo!" Chanyeol showed up in the kitchen. "How you're doing?"
Somi fixed her posture and forced a smile.
"Completely fine..." she answered in a sigh.

A couple of minutes after, Suho came and the whole group got complete and ready to eat. Somi offered her help to set the table, to serve the drinks, and even organized the shoes on the shoe shelf.
When she finished her bowl of noodles, she leaned back on the chair, caressing her belly.
"I think the host should do the clean up too." Baekhyun brought the topic. "He should be glad we came."
"Let's play a game and the loser cleans up." Jongdae suggested.
"I can clean up." Somi said, raising her hand.
All the eight boys looked at her at the same time and she looked down, trying to contain her laugh.
"Did you break anything already?" Minseok asked, looking around.
"I can't believe it." Suho said, giggling.

Instantly stopping laughing, Somi looked at Suho as if he was a saviour and then blinked. She looked at Jongdae and he blinked at her.
