Thinking about the first time Jeremy can actually sort of converse in French with jean. As for the first time in forever Jean can speak in his mother tongue without the conversation being a secret or about something dangerous. Feeling a weight come off his shoulders as, for the first time since leaving Marseille, he gets to freely exist as Jean-Yves Moreau again, without all the restrictions or having to meet someone on their own turf.
So. I live in very conservative Kansas, specifically right next to St.Marys, the most catholic town in the country(this is official. I am not exaggerating). I also work there, so do my parents. I deal with a lot of shit because they are mainly SSPX Catholics, a specific sect that is ultra conservative, holds mass in Latin, and was soft-excommunicated because they rejected Francis. Francis still let them preform ceremonies though.
They have been officially excommunicated by Pope Leo.
Fuck them, fuck their "holier than thou" attitude, fuck their gaudy ass cathedral(who the fuck tops a church with a solid gold Madonna?), and fuck all the hell they have put me and my friends through in the name of "God's will as his truest catholics".

also, excommunication isn't just 'not allowed to go to church'. if you're excommunicated, you've been cast out. no one is allowed to help you. no one is allowed to sell to you. you have been unpersoned. trevor doesn't introduce himself as a belmont unless he has to- to establish his credentials (with the speakers) or if he's forced to (the inn with the shovel guy). this is because anyone who knows the belmonts have been excommunicated are obligated to turn their faces from him. goodbye beer! goodbye bread! goodbye supplies, or a night indoors! trevor is excommunicated. he has good reason to hide his name, even when people aren't speaking against his family
I think it would be hilarious to see the Pope Ex-communicate Trump. His meltdown would be delightful to watch. This has been my happy daydream of the day.

Hi! I’m not sure that I’m using the right terms to refer to myself and my relationship to Catholicism. I grew up Catholic and was confirmed (voluntarily—that ought to be a given, but if you’ve met Catholic teenagers then you know what I mean). My experience with the Church was positive, but over time, I realized that I do not have a sincere belief in the existence of God or the divinity of Jesus. Since I was missing a couple crucial elements of Catholic faith (and I wouldn’t feel right faking them), I left Catholicism.
From what I understand, the word for my beliefs is apostasy (rejection of Christianity as a whole) and professing these beliefs confers a state of excommunication upon me. Am I correct in thinking that “excommunicated Catholic” is an accurate term to use for myself? To be clear, the idea of being excommunicated is not distressing to me—I am fine with my current spiritual status. I just want to be accurate with my language.

It is considered latae sententiae excommunication which is when it does not go through a bishop or other canon authority.
As long as you’re of age, you are knowingly taking actions to publicly go against the church, and you are not under threat or coercion then yes, you are excommunicated.
However, people will assume that you were excommunicated in the traditional sense (like through canon court). So if you want to avoid that, I would say that you are no longer Catholic. Because it was not public and there were no Church authorities involved you can kind of reneg at any moment and become Catholic again whereas if this was imposed on you, that would be a different story.
