Okay so warning for lots of religious trauma/cult vibes below the break but I’ve been thinking about a story I heard a lot before I left the church and I need to get it off my chest
Okay so my mother’s best friend is another of the religious leaders in that church and sometimes there would be days when everyone would come and tell their story and how they joined the church (it’s actually how I found out my mom used to be on drugs) but anyway one of the people who told theirs the most was my mother’s best friend.
Her story was that she was raised non religious and got married to a guy and they had kids, he was nice and they were married for a while, and then she got converted and joined the church, he didn’t. She said that he never did anything terrible but she didn’t want her kids to be raised by anyone non religious.
She divorced him and accused him of domestic abuse (that she once admitted to me he didn’t do) so he would have no chance of even partial custody of their kids, and raised all of them in the church.
The church always talked about how brave she was making sure they didn’t get exposed to any ungodly influence even if it was difficult, and when I was a kid it was just a story I heard a lot, but I know for a fact that she never let him have any contact with his kids at least until they graduated high school (which implies that he tried to reach out and she wouldn’t let him)
The woman remarried a man in the church and they had more kids and adopted more, but that poor guy, evidently she was scared he would fight her for custody, do his kids know that? Do they know that he didn’t just leave them? Does he know that some of his kids are married now? One of them has a kid now, does he know? Did he ever see them again? Is he okay after what she did to him?
The church always treated her like a hero but what about the man she left behind with nothing? What about all the people like him who were burned for someone else to be a hero for their faith?
I just wonder where he is now
I hate it when xtians reduce my religious trauma to "a religious person said something mean to you once so now you're mad at religion".
Like, shut the fuck up. My trauma isn't just someone being a little rude to me once, it was systematic, deliberate manipulation with the threat of possible eternity of suffering in Hell if I didn't obey religious rules and "keep Christ in my heart". It was "Nonbelievers burn in a lake of eternal fire. Tell your friends to convert to our faith or they'll be damned for eternity".
I have suffered from anxiety, ocd and other mental health issues for several fucking years because of this shit. I've suppressed my sexuality and felt terrible guilt just for the 'sin' of having sexual thoughts. I've feared for my loved one's souls, genuinely believing they would go to Hell for simply not being xtians and that I'd never see them again in the afterlife.
These beliefs are sick and twisted. What I went through was sick and twisted.
I seriously don't know what to say to you if you still think telling anyone, let alone a child, that they're going to be damned for eternity if they disobey 'God's word' is totally fine and not abusive.
Know your fucking place and stop speaking over trauma survivors who have been hurt by your shitty religion.
Trans kid trying to moving to a safer place away from fundamentalist Christian parents!
Hi! It’s yo ghost, BugBoiBin! I was born and raised in a Fundamentalist Christian home, went … Robin Fick needs your support for Help Bug mo
Hi! It’s yo ghost, BugBoiBin! I was born and raised in a Fundamentalist Christian home, went to a fundamentalist private school, and was all around extremely sheltered as a kid. Despite this background, I have always know that I am trans-nonbinary, just have never had the words to express that until recently. I moved out of my parents house a few years ago, and have slowly allowed myself to explore and learn these “forbidden” things I was taught to hate and despise my entire life. I only just learned what the actual theory of Evolution is less than a year ago, something that would have landed me in serious hot water if my parents knew while I was still in their house.
While I am no longer live in my parents house, I am still nearby, work in the town they live in, and, for that reason, am still closeted. I desperately want to be free to be me, cut my hair how I want, dress in the clothes I love, and finally start to transition, but I can’t do that here safely. I don’t know what my dad will do if I did try to transition; I don’t feel the safest around him, especially with his anger issues. Additionally, the midwest in general is not the best for trans people, let alone those that identify as nonbinary.
As such, I’m trying to move to Washington state! I’ve been there before, the weather is nicer (I work outside all day, so that’s a big deal), the people are more accepting, and the state itself has more protections for transgender individuals.
Moving isn’t cheap, however, so I was hoping for a little help? Any bit counts. I can send cat pics, I’m not much of an artist but I can sketch something, and I can try to make animal crossing designs if you send some inspo pics!
I’m really scared right now with everything going on, and have had my dreams crushed a few too many times at this point. I’m looking for some help, a big break so I can start fresh.
Please help.
Hi, I started this fundraiser, Help Bug move to a safer home, on GoFundMe and it would mean a lot to me if you’d be able to share or donate to it. https://gofund.me/e57a63143

I find it very disturbing how some Christians, particularly fundamentalists, revel in the belief that non Christians will go to hell. There are some Christians that are pained and confused by this idea, struggling to reconcile it. But I've met many Christians who genuinely fantasize about it. When they encounter an atheist who is really not a terrible person — just an atheist, whose biggest crime is non belief, they say things like "can't wait until Jesus comes and this person goes to hell". They fantasize about that person dying and being shocked to find out that God was real all along and they're going to hell. Definitely one of the more sinister things I've encountered in the church. Christian love is truly so disconnected from what real love is, it should be called something else.

[don't ever ask your love of me.]
God has never done anything for us, but we all pray to him regardless. Night and day. Over and over again. Like a kid begging his deadbeat dad to be there, for one game. To notice one fucking time. To give him just one hug. One chance. Begging for him. To be a father. That’s why we invented religion anyway, because we’re all afraid of what it’s like to not have one. God is nothing more than the distant, cold idea of a father, for those who’ve lost their own. That’s why we cry out to him even though he isn’t there, and he hasn’t answered. (He never will.) He can’t hear us, because God is just an idea. A millennium-long creature of mass hysteria. He’s never been anything more than the memory of your father’s rough hands, his freckled face, and the smell of sawdust.
