âNot As Subtle As You Thinkâ- Percy Jackson x Dionysius ReaderÂ
Summary
You and Percy Jackson are not dating.
Youâre just sneaking into each otherâs cabins.
At night.
Repeatedly.
While actively being the least subtle people at Camp Half-Blood.
Itâs fine.
Itâs under control.
Right up until your father, Dionysus, finds Percy under your bedâand decides to not keep that information to himself.
And then Annabeth Chase gets involved.
Which is worse.
Much worse.

Camp Half-Blood had rules.
Important rules.
Rules about curfew, about weapons, about not summoning anything that could eat your fellow campers.
And then there were the unwritten rules.
Like:
Donât sneak into other cabins at night.
Donât get caught sneaking into other cabins at night.
And, most importantlyâ
Donât get caught sneaking into the Dionysus cabin specifically.
You were currently breaking all three.
Again.
âWeâre going to get caught,â Percy Jackson whispered, pressed close behind you as you eased open your cabin door.
âYou said that last time.â
âAnd the time before that.â
âAnd yet,â you murmured, glancing over your shoulder with a grin, âweâre still alive.â
âBarely.â
You slipped inside first, silent and practiced. Percy followed, shutting the door with careful precision.
The cabin was dimâlow lamplight, soft shadows, the faint scent of something sweet and sharp lingering in the air. Your space. Yours.
Safe.
You turned toward him.
He was already looking at you.
That was the problem.
He always looked at you like that.
Like this wasnât a game.
Like this was something heavier.
âHi,â you said softly.
ââŚHi.â
You stepped closer, fingers catching in the front of his shirt, tugging him just slightly off balance.
âYouâre late.â
âI had to dodge Grover,â he said. âAnd your fatherâs general existence.â
You snorted.
âValid.â
For a moment, the world narrowedâjust the two of you, breath close, tension easy and familiar.
Thenâ
âYou know,â Percy murmured, hand settling lightly at your waist, âone of these nights, this is going to go horribly wrong.â
You tilted your head, stepping even closer.
âOr,â you whispered, âitâs going exactly right.â
He laughed under his breath, forehead dropping briefly to yours.
âYeah,â he said quietly. âThatâs the problem.â
Neither of you moved.
You could feel the shiftâsubtle, but real.
The teasing ease softened into something quieter. Heavier.
Your fingers were still curled in his shirt. His hand still rested at your waistâbut now it tightened, just slightly, like heâd realized how close you actually were.
âStill think this is a bad idea?â you murmured.
Percy huffed a quiet laugh, but it didnât quite land.
âI think,â he said slowly, eyes flicking down to your mouth and back up again, âI stopped thinking about five minutes ago.â
Your breath caughtâjust enough for him to notice.
Good.
âDangerous,â you whispered.
âYeah.â
He didnât step closer.
Didnât pull you in.
And somehow, that made it worse.
Because now it was a choice.
Your choice.
So you made it.
You rose onto your toes, closing the last inch of space between you.
For a heartbeat, nothing happened.
Just shared breath.
Warmth.
The quiet hum of something neither of you was pretending was casual anymore.
Thenâ
You kissed him.
Soft.
Testing.
Just the brush of your lips against hisâenough to ask, not take.
Percy stilled completely.
And thenâ
His hand slid from your waist to your back, pulling you closer in one smooth, certain motion.
The kiss deepenedânot rushed, not overwhelmingâbut sure. Like heâd been holding back and finally decided not to.
Your fingers tightened in his shirt as he angled slightly, his other hand coming up to steady you, thumb brushing lightly along your side.
There was a warmth to itâsteady, grounding, like the ocean pulling at the shore instead of crashing over it.
You exhaled softly against him, and he answered it, breath catching just enough to betray him.
When you pulled back, it wasnât far.
Foreheads still close.
Lips still brushing when either of you spoke.
ââŚStill think weâre getting caught?â you whispered.
Percy let out a quiet, breathless laugh.
âOh, weâre definitely getting caught.â
You smiled.
âWorth it?â
He didnât hesitate this time.
ââŚYeah.â
His hand tightened slightly at your back, like he meant it.
And godsâ
That was the problem.
Time passed the way it always did with him.
Too fast. Too soft. Too easy to forget everything outside the room.
You were halfway through telling him a storyâsomething ridiculous about Castor and Pollux sneaking wine and blaming it on a nymphâwhen Percy snorted, shaking his head.
âThey actually got away with that?â
âBriefly,â you said, grinning. âUntil Pollux tried to flirt with the wrong person andââ
Knock.
Everything stopped.
The sound didnât echoâit settled. Heavy. Intentional.
You froze.
Percy froze.
Another knock.
Slow.
Deliberate.
Knowing.
âYouâre awake,â came the voice.
You closed your eyes.
ââŚYouâve got to be kidding me.â
Percy mouthed: who is that
You mouthed back: weâre going to die
A third knockâlighter this time. Almost bored.
âOpen the door,â the voice added.
You moved fast.
âUnder the bed.â
âWhatââ
âNOW.â
He didnât argue. Didnât hesitate.
Percy dropped, rolling smoothly under the bed just as you straightened, forcing your breathing to even out, smoothing your clothes like that would somehow undo everything about this situation.
You opened the door just enough to lean casually against the frame.
âHi, Dad.â
Dionysus looked at you.
Then at your face.
Then at your posture.
Thenâvery slowlyâat the room behind you.
ââŚWhy are you sweating?â
You blinked. âIâm notââ
âYou are.â
From under the bed, Percy made a tiny, doomed noise.
You coughed. Loudly.
âI was sleeping.â
Dionysus stared at you like he was deeply, personally offended by that statement.
ââŚRight.â
He stepped forward.
You blocked him.
Too fast.
Too obvious.
His eyebrow lifted. Just slightly.
ââŚAre you hiding something?â
âNo.â
âYes.â
âNo.â
ââŚI didnât say anything.â
You froze.
From under the bed:
âDonât laugh,â Percy whispered.
You kicked the bed.
Silently.
Violently.
Dionysus tilted his head, gaze sharpening just enough to be dangerous.
ââŚThere is a boy in here.â
It wasnât a guess.
It wasnât curiosity.
It was a statement.
You inhaled slowly, folding your arms like you werenât one wrong breath away from disaster.
âDefine âboy.ââ
Dionysus blinked once.
ââŚIâm going to define it as the demigod currently attempting to control his breathing under your furniture.â
From under the bedâ
ââŚwow,â Percy muttered.
You closed your eyes briefly.
âTraitor,â you whispered toward the floor.
âI am not the one who invited me,â he whispered back.
Dionysusâs gaze flicked downward.
Then back up.
Then he sighed. Long-suffering. Ancient. Exhausted.
ââŚCome out, Jackson.â
A pause.
A long, painful pause.
ââŚDo I have to?â Percy asked faintly.
âYes.â
ââŚOkay.â
There was a shuffle. A thud.
Then Percy rolled out from under the bed, hair completely wrecked, shirt twisted, dignity left somewhere beneath the mattress.
He sat there for half a second like he might simply stay on the floor forever.
Then, slowly, he stood.
ââŚSir.â
Silence.
Dionysus looked at him.
Then at you.
Then back at him.
Judgment settled over the room like a storm cloud.
ââŚYou,â Dionysus said.
ââŚMe,â Percy agreed weakly.
âYou have remarkably poor instincts.â
âThatâsâuhâfair.â
âAnd you,â he added, looking at you, âhave worse.â
You smiled sweetly.
âGenetics.â
He looked unimpressed.
âIâm not dealing with this,â Dionysus muttered. âI have endured war, tragedy, and theater festivals in ancient Greece. I refuse to add teenage stupidity to that list.â
You opened your mouth.
He held up a hand.
âDonât.â
You closed it again.
Smart.
Then, quieterâjust slightlyâhis gaze shifted back to Percy.
âIf you break my childâs heart,â he said calmly, âI will turn you into something deeply inconvenient.â
Percy swallowed.
ââŚLikeââ
âI havenât decided,â Dionysus said. âIt will depend on my mood.â
ââŚThatâs fair,â Percy said quickly.
âGood.â
Dionysus turned, already halfway out the door.
Then paused.
Without looking backâ
ââŚNext time,â he said dryly, âuse the window. Even I had standards.â
The door shut behind him.
Just like that.
Silence flooded back in.
You stood there.
Percy stood there.
A beat.
Two.
Then Percy exhaled hard, dragging both hands down his face.
âI cannot believe that just happened.â
You looked at him.
Then at the door.
Then back at himâ
And started laughing.
Full, uncontrollable, breathless laughter.
Percy dragged a hand down his face.
âI almost got turned into a dolphin.â
âYou survived.â
âBarely.â
He stepped closer again, quieter now.
Less teasing.
ââŚStill worth it.â
Your laughter softened.
âYeah?â
âYeah.â
And godsâthat was worse.
Because he meant it.
You should have known it wasnât over.
You should have known.
Camp Half-Blood did not do subtle.
It definitely didnât do secrets.
You were halfway through breakfast when someone dropped into the seat across from you.
Black hair pulled back, sharp gray eyes already locked on youâcalculating, precise, and far too observant for your current situation.
Terrifying.
Annabeth Chase.
ââŚSo,â she said calmly.
You froze mid-bite.
Across the pavilion, Percy Jackson choked on his drink.
Hard.
Several heads turned.
Grover patted his back like this was a normal, everyday occurrence.
It was not.
ââŚSo?â you echoed, slowly setting your fork down.
Annabeth leaned forward, resting her elbows on the table like she had all the time in the worldâand like you had nowhere to run.
âElaborate on why Percy left his cabin at 1:07 a.m., avoided three patrol routes, and entered yours.â
Silence.
Absolute silence.
The kind that spread.
Because people noticed.
They always noticed.
A couple Hermes kids at the next table leaned inâsubtle as a brick.
A Demeter girl froze mid-sip.
From across the pavilion, Percy went completely still, like if he didnât move, no one would see him.
You blinked.
ââŚYou tracked him?â
âI observed patterns,â she corrected smoothly.
Percy looked like he wanted to sink into the ground and let the earth claim him.
You leaned back slowly, crossing your arms like this was just another conversation.
ââŚAnd?â
Annabethâs eyes narrowed slightly.
âAnd,â she said, voice calm but sharp, âyouâre not as subtle as you think you are.â
A snort came from somewhere behind youâone of the Stoll brothers, probably.
You didnât turn.
You smiled.
Sweet.
Dangerous.
âAnd youâre not as subtle as you think you are.â
A beat.
Annabeth studied you.
Then leaned back in her chair.
ââŚHe likes you.â
Percy choked again.
Louder this time.
Grover winced. âDude.â
Someone laughed.
You didnât look at him.
Didnât give him the satisfaction.
âYeah,â you said lightly. âI know.â
That did it.
Now people were really looking.
Whispers startedâquiet, quick, spreading like wildfire.

Random Knight: *Witnessed Merlin calling Arthur a prat* Sire, are you just going to just let him talk to you that way? đ¤
Arthur: It's Merlin, what can you do. đ¤ˇđź
Noble: *Upset with Merlin's presence during court and used his now absences to complain* As King you should have more sense then to let some farm boy advise you in such delicate matters of court! đ¤
Arthur: It's Merlin. He who takes care of the castle servants, who is the apprentice physician that sees to the people downtown off duty and who is well acquainted with the merchants by name. That Merlin. đ¤¨
Noble: ...
Arthur: Any other questions? Good, let's see about lunch. Someone call Merlin back from town, he knows how I like my sandwiches made. đđĽŞ
Princess: *Trying to be seductive and pretty* I hear your looking for a Queen? đ
Arthur: *Not interested and wishing to strangle a court elder* Apparently... đ
Princess: I could be your Queen~ *Tries to touch his arms sensually*đđ
Arthur: *Disgusted and Panics* đŹ Sadly you don't meet my requirements.
Princess: Well, what are your requirements? I'm sure I can more then meet them~đ
Arthur: Black hair, large ears, calls me a prat and male.
Princess: *Flabbergasted*
Arthur: *runs*
Knight on the side: It's Merlin. Just so you know.
Gwaine: So is anyone gonna tell him or should I?
Leon: It's been over a Decade and sadly the King has yet to admit it.
Percival: It's just Merlin. The guy doesn't even hides how devoted he is to Arthur.
Leon: Unfortunate really. Arthur was never able to place a label on what he felt for Merlin. Anything that boy does is instantly just categorised as "Merlin".
Gwaine: He gets his own category? Where do we go under.
Leon: "Merlin's Knights" apparently. He said as much while drunk and wistfully talked about retiring into the countryside and buy a farm where he and Merlin can own a cow and some chickens. He especially wanted the chickens.
Gwaine: *Laughs*
Percival: Damn, he's got it bad. And I can't even deny it. We basically did come together thanks to Merlin. But why chickens?
Leon: Said it was a engagement present for Merlin.
Percival: ...
Gwaine: ... Called it.
Knight: *Sees magic near Merlin* Sorcerer! *Arrests him and goes to the King*
Arthur: What is this?
Knight: Sire! I witnessed this servant doing Sorcery! *Points to Merlin*
Arthur: It's Merlin.
Knight: Yes Sire. He was doing magic.
Merlin: Arthur I can explain-
Arthur: *Raises his hand up to pause his words* You sure of this?
Knight: *Says smugly* Yes Sire!
Arthur: Right then. *Proceeds to go to his desk and picks up something before signing them with his seal*
Arthur: Hand this to Geoffrey, from henceforth the Magic Ban has been lifted.
