the rise of king asilas is honestly one of the most downright weirdest podcasts i’ve ever listened to. the sound design is so dramatic and in your face, it’s like the audio equivalent of those melodramatic transitions in indian soap operas. it’s like the sound design went like
“what effect should i use for this scene?”
“all of them”
“that’s what i’m talking abt!”
like when a character speaks, it’s not enough for the acting to carry its weight, it has to have a five second pause in dialog with all the sound effects and dramatic music playing loudly
and the premise feels like it’s gonna drop some scathing Political Commentary™ cuz it’s abt america becoming a christian authoritarian monarchy in a time of crisis and going on to evangelize the whole world against satanists cuz they secretly rule the world apparently. but like,,,,,, the story and characters are so uncritical of asilas even when he’s done objectively awful things, and the ppl that are against him are always bad, and idk if that’s commentary on how ppl blindly obey authority figures, or if asilas really is supposed to be taken seriously out of universe
also they do ad spots for other podcasts and like it made me realize just how many true crime podcasts are out there
Edit: also I wanna add that this show does some things that I consider to be in bad taste and I honestly don't recommend it, you've been warned
“No fight”
