Because perhaps I should first post- and then repost in Communities hehe
πͺΆKleiphyra is a Goddess I made up btw, daughter of Zeus and Hera, let me know if you want more of her//have questionsποΈ
"You? Or your crew?"
It grew quiet once Zeus has spoken.
No one dared to look at Odysseus, to move or breathe even.
But in the end, after horrible minutes of silence, it was Eurylocus who spoke.
It was Eurylocus who stood up for his crew.
"Captain?"
He asked, just to make sure Odysseus hasn't drifted of in his thoughts on how to "save" everyone and anger the god- once again.
"I have to see her."
He had turned around while he spoke those words. Words, which sealed the fate of the remaining men.
"But we'll die?"
Eurylocus asked, because maybe- just maybe Odysseus would think about this again.
Sure, the whole time he had only one goal in mind: to get back to his Wife. Penelope.
But surely, surely he knew that the remaining men also had wives and children who waited for them.
But solely the look in Odysseus' eyes told Eurylocus that all hope for the remaining crew was lost.
"I know."
So Eurylocus closed his eyes.
And waited.
Suddenly, he felt light.
Like a lightning striking his body but.. it wasn't cruelsome like he expected.
It felt warm and safe.
And not much time later he felt someone touching him.
Gentle hands, cupping his face and carefully stroking his hair from his face. The hair he chopped of shortly after he went on the ship and promised he would only let it grow back once he was back in Ctimenes arms.
"My love, I'm going to wait for you I promise."
Eurylocus' breath hitched as he felt a pair of lips on his. Careful, soft and reverent. Like Ctimene kissed him before they left Ithaca.
Slowly, he opened his eyes.
And everything hit him at once.
Ctimene before him, in the light blue robe he adored on her. Men, men who had fallen on the journey, passing him while loading their weapons on the ship.
Odysseus in the background talking with Penelope who's holding Telemachus in her arms.
The smell of the sea, the sound of waves gently hitting the ship.
Polites laugh somewhere near.
Was this the afterlife?
Was this a god playing tricks on him?
Or was that.. he looked past Ctimene, who was hugging him tightly, into the olive trees- where he saw what he was hoping for.
A Turtledove.
This was indeed the work of a goddess.
"Eurylocus are you coming? The others are waiting already."
Odysseus approached him, Penelope walking beside him, their hands still intervened.
"No."
You could see the color in Odysseus' face draining as he registered the words of his friend.
"What? But- you're my second in command?"
Eurylocus looked at Ctimene and then back at his captain.
The captain who had sacrificed him so he'd finally see his wife.
The captain who yelled at his face that they were doomed because of him.
"My answer is clear. I'm not leaving Ithaca. I'll be your second in command here- but not on the ship. Ask Polites or Diomedes, I'm sure they'd gladly help. But I'm staying here. Okay?"
Odysseus gulped but nodded.
"Okay."
"Thank you."
But never the less Eurylocus woke up every night from horrible nightmares. The voice of Polyphemus was engraved in his memory. The screams of men when Poseidon drowned their fleets, Circes' voice, the squeaks of his friends being turned into pigs and Scylla also never failed to visit him in his dreams.
Between it all he could hear Polites laugh and the Winions.
And he couldn't help but wonder what was happening.
Would history repeat itself just without him on deck?
Would Polites still be crushed by the Cyclops?
Who would take his place when making sure that Circes' Island is secure.
Nothing could lessen the pain he was in, not even his dear Wife- no matter how hard she tried.
Only certainy.
But where would he find the answer his heart was seeking?
It has been a week since Odysseus and his crew have left.
A week full of nights Ctimenes husband has awoken in terror.
He's been talking in his sleep.
About the food supplies being depleted.
About raiding the island instead of exploring it.
Talking to someone about not forgetting how dangerous the gods are.
...and about Pigs.
Ctimene didn't want to accuse her husband of anything. But she had heard stories.
Wives warning their daughters that their husband might start to act wierd before a war, and refuse to go even if they had the strength and courage to bring glory home.
This behavior can only have two reason, on one hand you could've been blended by him and he isn't as brave and strong as he is saying.
Or..
And this is what Ctimene strongly believed,
He has been blessed by Kleiphyra.
As the daughter of Hera, it is her obligation to return married soldiers home safely.
On special occasions she even gives a second chance.
At the moment of their death, she brings them back to the moment which changed their lives. The departure.
She let's the men decide whether they would choose the war again or remain with their loved ones.

This is based on the cute poster that was made for Jorge's Charity livestream! Eury trains so he can lift Ctimene whenever she wants to.
It's been so long already since I last drew them? I may not be into EPIC as much as I used to, however I do look back to my active time in the fandom very fondly and I'm happy to have met people who I've the honor to call my mutuals and even beloved friends.
Also here's a lil bonus:
We got the gang back together in a happy parallel universe, I'll take that ππͺ

I really want to see a fanfic or smth where Ctimene absolutely roasts Odysseus for being so obsessed, selfish, putting Eurylochus down for his VALID CONCERNS, not listening to Athena, etc. I want to see Ody reflect and care more LIKE EURYLOCHUS AFTER PUPETEER, and maybe some Eurymene flashbacks. I just love Eurymene so much and the Eurylochus slander pains meπ
