Shorykyol spirits
Names on the sheet: Chabi (vixen), Tukai (goat), Elaviy (crane), Lera (hare), and Oshvui (lamb)
Shorykyol is somewhat like a New year/Christmas. That day animal spirits in human form come out of the forest into the villages. Residents should greet them and treat them, traditionally with a whole cooked lamb leg. Thats where the mane comes from - Shorykyol translates to «Lamb leg»!
Animals vary from region to region, but the average version is fox, hare, goose and goat. There also could be a sheep, a duck, a crane or other animals, which people take goods from (meat, fluff, milk …)
The spirits are asked for abundance and goods that come from animals, about the good harvest next year. ---- Recently we celebraited Peledysh Pairem (Flower Festival) here in mari El, so it made me rerember about Shoryckyol too. I wanted I wanted to draw characters based on spirits. I added lamb no matter what cuz i love them lots... Goat, ito my understanding, is supposed to be representing a diary animal so female, but it's always portrayed with horns so mine will to!!
The outfits are all based on real mari clothes!! Although from different eras and social stats
