I am reading the whole series once again and am currently at the end of book one.
And as a paramedic the transfusion part always gets me. I mean I know why it is written that way but!
Either the line is full of NaCl (basically a liquid that would only hydrate you) and then got connected to the blood bag, which seems like Murphy would have done it to be extra dramatic.
Or the MC would just be dead because of the air in the line being pushed into the vein. Probably before the blood would have even entered the body.
I am sorry. I just find it so funny everytime I read it because, of course, I think of the former scenario and Murphy just preparing it like this, giggling a bit in anticipation (does he giggle..?) to be that extra bit dramatic to make the moment even more memorable for him.
Oh, you just know anything Murphy could do to be more dramatic he would totally do, lol! :D
I mean, a lot in Wayhaven totally shouldn't be possible, but I am a writer that is definitely in the 'suspend belief to enjoy a story' kind of camp, hehe! I do actually research things, but a lot of the science side goes totally over my head, lol!

Hey so since SOME PEOPLE (ahem ahem @seraphinitegames) are gatekeeping the Murphy's echolian name, I'm going to crowdsource it, because this man cannot keep getting away with identity fraud like this (RIP human Ethan Murphy)
Wayhaven Fandom, lend me your braincells, and lets figure this shit out together. We don't have a lot to work with since we only have F's two Echolian names, but I believe in us.
Here are a couple of random names I'm just throwin' at the wall to see if they'll stick, and feel free to add more in the replies or tags or whatever.

everytime i replay book1 and read that initial scene of ‘murphy’ torturing the real ethan murphy i feel so bad for the man because imagine your legacy being so brutally tainted & forever being known as a crazed blood-thirsty maniac who murdered people, when in reality you were just a regular doctor who did the exact opposite.
and then that’s not even the worst part? the worst part is the fact that the person who forever altered your legacy & life work was in fact the man who brutally murdered you⁉️⁉️⁉️
Actually talking to @fauville just made me realize?? Justice for Actual Ethan Murphy. That poor blood tech. He went through some bad shit and now this detective in town bares their teeth and hisses anytime his name is mentioned and like excuse you for what???
Yet ANOTHER illustration with my The Wayhaven Chronicles OC, Detective Val Batra! This time it's with Val and Murphy.
Soon I'll make one with Val and Tina, but I'm trying to run by all the mystery works in my mind before repeating ones I already posted about. I'm thinking in doing fanart.
This one is from Hannibal (TV series), specifically the eight episode in season two, «Su-zakana». In this context, the Nietzscheian Fish - the trout - is defined by experiencing the world through constant strife rather than confining itself in the comfort of structural society - parphrasing Chief_Mourner (Reddit), Hannibal inflicting pain on Will was to 'free him' from the confines of society, making him 'tastier'. I see this as a perfect parallel with Val and Murphy's situation.
I changed the scene to set it around the end of Book I, Chapter XVIII, when the detective is tied down at Murhpy's abandoned warehouse. My detective was all like "you put that in me, and then what?" & "let's just get this over with." Apparently Murphy approved of that attitude?
For Murphy's design I mostly based on kruk-art's drawing and the tarot card (the color palette and hairstyle are peak) and tondratic's post (something about this really calls to me, it's compelling and succint, and I wanted to do something similar for the first panel). Notable inspirations definitely go to cloudruler/venusmage's book one post (love Penny Langford and love the art!! it's so cool!!) and vryptidart's illustration of Pannie (the essence? the facial emotions? oof). Peak.
As far as I've collected from the text, Murphy has thin lips, a shadow of stubble lines his jaw (dark against his cream skin). Black curls - streaked with grey - surround his aged, yet handsome face. His eyes are framed with fine wrinkles. Paraphrasing the book: "he looked pretty normal: older guy, a kind of grizzled thing going on, about five eight, medium build." I wanted to apply this post about vampire teeth from @arsanatomica too, so I drew the fangs like that.
I wanted to highlight Murphy's facial features and his depravation - sort of a comparison between the monster and the man, and the ways the monster surfaces from the man. Thanfully @kazukitnacho did the painting to bring out that messy, increasingly disturbing atmosphere!
I realize Murphy's eyes are too close to his nose in the third panel 😞 however I have delayed posting this long enough. I've also been told that it makes him look extra creepy, so I'm keeping it.
I'm still using the pencil brush and the ZH NT Dynamic 5B, and the font remains Yu Gothic Light - differently from before, Val's speech bubble is now made with the flat watercolor brush! I think it suits the aesthetic a lot more. I also used rahlenpro's Moss Brush (苔ブラシ) for Murphy's background. Really giving that delapidated warehouse vibe.
