You seriously don't even want to know how many hip cafes I've visited this month, but if I was to mention just one for the sake of conversation it would be Estabar, home to the most expensive cup in Newcastle. If you have a black American Express card and a mouth I'd highly recommend putting some of their creamy single origin coffee in it. Personally I enjoy splurging $4.80 on a latte while other times I opt for the piccolo, it really just depends on the budget I'm working with and what I feel like consuming on the day. Fortunately the wooden furniture here has been designed to accommodate the human body, which has proven to be a real hit with the locals because they climb over each other to get the ocean view every morning. If you're not claustrophobic and still intend to take part in the stampede, aim for the elevated open-air window. It would make you sick to your stomach knowing what I've seen people do just to claim this little bench. Judging by the way a lot of Novocastrians talk about Estabar, it's safe to assume they pleasure themselves daily to a mental image of the rosetta art. Unlike me, they're obviously unfazed by the long delay. I passed into a new epoch waiting for a takeaway on Tuesday, but at least the barista had warmed it to perfection. It was such a relief to take the lid off my cup and not open a direct portal to hell.   Rating - 6.9/10
