i came, i saw, i conquered. or should i say i saw, i conquered, i came.

"touch me..." his eyes aren't icy, yet when they meet yours it feels like you've dunked your head into frigid water, clear, refreshing; spring water slipping into your mind, filling your head until it feels too heavy to carry. so you don't, you let your head gently fall back onto the door frame, you stood on one side, sae the other, within arms distance, yet not touching you. the space feels impossible to cross, like the beautiful spring water will draw you in too deep, too far from the shore, too far from being able to save yourself. your fingers twitch at your side, begging, itching, to make the treacherous swim across, to face whatever monster lies in the deep. the reward far outweighing the risk if he'd touch you, if he'd kiss you instead of holding back, if you could feel the slide of his tongue against yours, lips pressed to soft lips, chest to chest, hips to hips, warm skin to warm skin, soft hair between your fingers, no discernible beginning to him and the end of you. sae inches into the open water between you, his eyes dark under the harsh shadow of your porch light shining down on you, looking nearly black as they study you. he touches you, of course, fingertips sliding over your knuckles, light enough to make you shiver, to make your eyelids flutter, to fill your head with the heavy weight of want. "touch you? like this?" your fingers twitch again, wanting to reach for him, your limbs heavy like you'd already been wading for hours. "no," you can't help the whine bubbling at your throat, "touch me."

“walk me to my door?” "does that line ever end with us just at the door?" "like you'd want it to."

INTERVIEWER: what was the idea behind the film?

when making teenage dream, i thought about the idealised version of love i had in mind when i was younger, daydreaming about passion, about perfection, about the romance i saw on the screen. i wanted to explore something that felt... a little more real, where things don't always go the way you want, where the timing is wrong, where ideals differ. that the love you imagine as a teenager isn't always attainable, sometimes it is just a dream.

INTERVIEWER: did you have the cast in mind when writing the script?

absolutely, i was hounding aiku's management for a year, i think [ laughs]. i knew he'd be an amazing leading man, and seeing him read lines with mercury just cemented it all, they were perfect on screen together.

INTERVIEWER: just on screen?

[laughs] well, they're certainly charming together, there was a lot of smiles on set, and a lot of nights between them spent running lines, i don't doubt they have a relationship off screen. whether or not that's romantic... that's not for me to say
