"wow athena has a son! erichthonius! amazing! and circe also has a son who knows magic! phaunos/Faunus! i bet they have really interesting mythology and great and sad tragedies" the actual myths
its deadass just wacky races fast and the furious
Hephaestus caring for Erichthonius
It’s an anomaly.
“ANTIPATER OF SIDON
Just when thou hadst become the mother, swallow, of a new-born brood, just when thou first wast warming thy children under thy wings, a many-coiled serpent, darting into the nest where lay thy young, robbed thee of the fruit of thy womb. Then when with all his might he came to slay thee, too, as thou wast lamenting them, he fell into the greedy breath of the hearth-fire. So died he the deed undone. See how Hephaestus succoured and saved the race of his son Erichthonius.” [Emphasis by me]
- Greek Anthology Book 7
“When Themis, who knows what the future holds, had uttered these prophetic words, the gods muttered various complaints, wondering why the selfsame gift could not be given to other mortals, too. Goddess Aurora, daughter of the Titan Pallas, grumbled about her husband, who was getting old, gentle Ceres complained that Iasion now had white hair, Mulciber [Hephaestus] demanded a renewal of life for Erichthonius, and Venus, too, affected by concerns for what would happen in the future, wished to bargain over Anchises’ life and make him young again.”
- Ovid, Metamorphoses 9.424
Only in the visual record: Hephaestus present during the birth of Erichthonius
Remembered Eos is mother of the winds — do you reckon anyone ever asked Memnon if he knew his half-brother fucked his grandad's horses?
Erichthonius and Acteon are really intersting but ngl they get alot of angst about ther characters but lowkey the biggest chunk of their writing is deadass just this.
admittly erichthonius being like dionysus top lieutenant and friend is super interesting

meanwhile athenas kid during the wacky races part of Nonnus Dionysica
"Erechtheus was a hasty man, and these words of Scelmis made him angrier than before, and his quick intelligent mind began at once to weave plots and plans. His hands went on with his driving, but in his heart he uttered a quick prayer to Athena the queen of his own city in his own country language, to crave help in his horsemanship: " Lady of Cecropia, horsemistress, Pallas unmothered! As thou didst conquer Poseidon in thy contest,' so may Erechtheus thy subject, who drives a horse of Marathon, conquer Poseidon's son!" With this appeal he touched up the flanks of his colts and brought up level car to car and yoke to yoke, and with his left hand caught at the mouth of his rival's horse, and pulled at the heavy grip of the bit, forcing back by the bridle the car running by his side; with his right hand he lashed his own
highnecked steeds putting on a spurt. So he took the place of Scelmis on the course, and made that charioteer fall behind. Then he looked back with a laughing countenance on the son of Poseidon, and mocked him in his turn with raillery, the words tumbling over his shoulder in a stream — "Scelmis, you're beaten! Erechtheus is a better man than you, for my old ambling mare Swiftfoot has beaten your Piebald, with Zephyros for sire, a horse too, and a young one, and one that can run on the sea without getting wet! If you are so proud of the skill of Pelops and praise the seacoursing car of your father, it was Myrtilos who contrived that cheating victory, with his clever invention, when he made a wax model of an axle to deceive his master. If you are haughty because of your father Earthshaker, the Horse God as you call him, who rides in the chariot of the deep, himself lord of the sea and master of the trident, Athena, a female, has beaten your backer, the male!"
LETS RACE WITH MAMA
same guy as erichthonius btw
"Odysseus is Athena's son" this, "No, it's actually Diomedes" that.
Ericthonius exist guys, please, remember Athena's first and ONLY son, tho she kinda does act patently with Odysseus and Diomedes, but still, they're more of a mentor-mentee
YUPPPP 🙂↕️ I do like the Athena and Odysseus mother-son dynamic hc personally but I shall NEVER erase Erichthonius he is the one and only child of Athena that's her babyyyyy
Do you ever imagine Athena being a mother figure to Tiresias? Also him being childhood friends with Ericthonius
Um, Im not sure if Tiresias and Erichthonius lived in the same era, but I can imagine Athena awkwardly trying to get close to child Tiresias in the hope that Chariclo would forgive her for blinding her son, like in the beggining she observes him but doesnt aproach directly instead she sends animals to help him, Tiresias notices Athena and then she give him an excuse that she trying to see if his prophecy abilities work, Athena uses this moment to be a mentor to him like teaching him how to interpret prophecy, Chariclo is spekitical at first and is protective of Tiresias but over time, Chariclo notices Tiresias laughing again and realizes Athena is trying, even if imperfectly, forgiveness isnt dramatic just Chariclo finally addressing her by name again instead of “goddess.” in the end, Athena develops a genuinely soft spot for Tiresias. Depending on the timeline, I could also imagine Athena trying to raise Erichthonius while remembering how Chariclo raised Tiresias (Athena acting like she also didnt kinda raise Tiresias), but failing and then begging Chariclo to raise Erichthonius with her.
