I read Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z Brite recently, and it made me realize that I might have written off horror novels too soon. I loved it. It was fantastic, and I'd love to read more.
Does anyone have any good horror novel or author recs? I'm pretty under-read in the genre and would like to explore it more. The two authors that I know for certain I like are Brite and Eric LaRocca. Also Jeff Vandermeer, though mentally I think I slot him more in with SFF.
I didn't much like what I've tried so far of Stephen King (2 novels and one short story collection), T. Kingfisher (1 horror novel, one non-horror), and Stephen Graham Jones (1 novel), but Jones' writing style was interesting, so I'm open to trying another by him if there's a particularly loved novel by him.
I've also tried one novella by Clive Barker, one novel by Charles Stross, and one novel by Anne Rice, all of which I thought were decent but didn't adore.
