As a mother and a mental health advocate… hearing about the loss of Ian Alexander hit me harder than I thought it would. The sorrow for @iamreginaking that I have is just… unmeasurable. I will hold my daughter a little harder today and send all the love and good vibes to Regina 🤍. May the lord continue to watch over her during this season of loss and keep her, family and friends safe. #mentalhealthishealth #itsoknottobeok #rememberme #erasethestigma #advocate https://www.instagram.com/p/CZCuUmdvCQmA77q4_WMOmw1CXHKII3FtrvifUs0/?utm_medium=tumblr

But sometimes signs are evident but we still dismiss them as something else. One example of this is self-harm. I know a lot of people who cut. And the stigma around cutters is very very ugly. People who self-harm are mocked and called emos or attention seekers. They are viewed as a cult rather than people battling an severe illness. They are called weirdos and shunned. They are 'uncool.' If the people who add to the stigma could swap brains with someone who self-harms even for a minute their whole attitude would change. They would feel the guilt and shame people who self-harm feel. They would feel the monstrous fear inside of them every time there is a chance someone might see their scars. If they cut for attention, tell me why they panic if there's a chance their scars will be exposed? Tell me why they cover them up to go unnoticed? We need to talk about self-harm and not make anyone who does it more ashamed than they already are. They are not weak or crazy. I know self-harmers and they are some of the strongest people I know. If I had even half the strength they have I would be much better than I am right now. People see scars. We judge and we judge and we judge. But who are we to judge? One scar is like one sentence in a book. Reading a sentence doesn't mean we have read the book and seeing someone's scar doesn't mean we know their story. I'm telling you, people who cut, they have horrific demons. They have gone through some terrible things. Why else would they cut? Instagram is going to shadowban this post and I will probably be shadowbanned for a while because it doesn't like discussing self-harm on it's platform. Which sucks because it just adds to the stigma and makes people even more ashamed. But that's the world we live in. And we need to change it. We need to treat people who self-harm as humans who are in pain and not people who are looking for attention. And when we do that and allow them to talk then they can finally start healing and maybe even learn more healthy ways to cope with their pain. https://www.instagram.com/p/BrGz4UVFbED/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=dp3zzkds8qf8

So for breakfast every morning I have meds, for lunch an extra anti anxiety, and for dinner every night I have a different pill. Is it ideal to have to be reliant on pharmaceuticals? Absolutely not, BUT it has been the best cocktail I’ve been on my whole life thus far, so I’m thankful that these dumb little pills exist. This is what living with chronic illness looks like, at every meal. Erase the stigma and shame attached to needed medication. #chronicillness #mentalhealth #meds #noshame #erasethestigma (at Paradise, Nevada) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrDfFVnHkP8/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=25sf6k5uvwdb
