First time drawing him, hope he turned out alright!

Favorite thing about them: his loyalty and how much he’s grown over the course of the series

Least favorite thing about them: probably that he got kind of annoying at the beginning of the series when he was trying to impress Elena

Favorite line: “We may be stuck here for Nochebuena, but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate. So who'd like some sweet buñuelos?” (Snow Place Like Home, when Gabe pretended that the crackers were buñuelos, so that he and the other guards could celebrate Navidad. This scene was the beginning of when I started to really like Gabe.)

⚔️ - unpopular opinion?

Don’t know how unpopular this is, but I was kind of disappointed by some parts of Coronation Day. Particularly Esteban’s deal with the Shades. I know it was necessary to the plot for the Shades to try to take over Avalor, but I think Esteban should have asked them for his family’s forgiveness/to undo all the damage he caused. I never felt that his goal was ever to rule Avalor by himself, just to be heard by his family. I also think it was naive of him to believe the Shades after his failed deal with Shuriki. (Not to mention that this is at least the third evil magic lady he is blindly trusting.) And after all the pain he caused Elena and her family & friends by joining Ash, I would think that his greatest wish was to fix the mess he created. I don’t even think the Shades needed Esteban for their plan anyway — it would have been nice to have seen him rebelling against Ash and the Shades throughout the episode instead. I would have also liked to see more reconciliation and honest conversation between Luisa and Esteban where they come to terms with the fact that Esteban felt ignored compared to Elena.

Don’t get me wrong, of course — I actually really liked the episode! The songs were amazing (especially Never Too Late) and I loved the forgiveness scene and the coronation at the end!

22. Popular character you hate?

I don’t really hate them, it’s more indifference, but: animal characters as a whole (with the exception of Zuzo because he’s awesome). I’m not sure why, but animal characters haven’t ever really appealed to me. It’s probably because they’re less developed than the human cast, and part of the time they’re just used as transportation (e.g. jaquins), but I never got very attached to them. The only one I really have feelings about is Flo, and that’s only because I find her kind of annoying (especially when she interrupted Esteban’s trial, though she does have some good moments).

23. Unpopular character you love?

Thanks for the ask! Here are some ships that I like :)

Eleteo (Elena x Mateo) because they always support each other and are there for one another. Elena contributed a lot to Mateo’s growth by encouraging him about his magic, and Mateo supports Elena by trusting her decisions and being by her side. I liked them from the first time they met and I could definitely see some romance happening between them in the future!

Jasabel (James x Isabel) because the dancing scene at coronation day was cute.

Esteoma (Esteban x Doña Paloma): I could see something developing between them while they served under Shuriki’s reign - like We’re holding up the economy together because Shuriki doesn’t care about it and This is only supposed to be a business relationship but I’m kind of having feelings for you. I enjoyed their interactions during The Incredible Shrinking Royals where they teamed up because they feel left out. Also the scene where Esteban says that he hates surprises and then Doña Paloma yells, “surprise” and Esteban says, “case in point”. I’m not really sure why I ship these two since they both lowkey can’t stand the other but I guess I just like their dynamic.

Teen!Esteban x Naomi: I really like their dynamic in the show, they are consistently hilarious when they interact! Don’t know if it’s just me but sometimes I forget that Esteban is actually in his fifties (what with him always hanging around with the teenage main cast) and that sort of makes the ship personally uncomfortable for me with the canon ages. I think that teen!Esteomi would be cool because it would be a similar relationship to that of canon but with no large age gap. You also can decide on the circumstances of the AU and why they are the same age (maybe it was Esteban who got trapped in the amulet for instance).

Rafictor (Rafa x Victor): ok so this is more of a crack ship since they never met in canon as far as I know but I feel like these two have potential together. They are both two awesome single parents who care deeply about their children and I don’t think it’s ever too late to fall in love/get married. I also think there might be some tension in the beginning (with Victor having joined Shuriki and indirectly causing Alacazar to leave) and it would be interesting to see them work through it.

I probably have some more that I’m forgetting but this is all I have for now.
