I don't have twitter or blue sky, so I'm gonna say my piece here.
I am an ambulatory wheelchair user and a huge concert goer. I used to go to gigs on crutches before it became physically too exhausting and painful to stand for longer than ten minutes unaided.
Let me say first or foremost that I would definitely give an arm and a leg to be able to safely in GA! And yes, I agree that there needs to be an overhaul on how accessible tickets and spaces are organised in venues. And YES, ideally, I would love to be closer to the stage and get some interaction with the performing artists again. Getting a guitar pic, drum stick, and setlist were always absolute highlights of a show! BUT I understand that as a wheelchair user I am a huge liability and safety risk, not just to myself, the other guests to just be in the pit.
Do I think 40 disabled tickets for a 10k venue is fair? FUCK NO! Do I think it's fair that the accessible seating area is in some corner in the back? Again FUCK NO! Do I think it's a fire risk to have multiple wheelchair users housed on a balcony with only one elevator that you can't use during a fire? FUCK YES! Do I understand why they are on the balcony? I do because than I can actually see the show instead of just butt's and groins!
This shining example is why people hate the disabled community when we advocate for accessibility accommodations! This person has the funds to jetset across the globe and attend concerts. When she saw djo in brooklyn they denied her barricade and instead of sitting in accessible seating like they told her she refused and ended up having to be pulled out of GA at the beginning of the show after she fainted and didn’t get to see *any* of it, but of course this is the venues fault and not her own for being stupid and entitled. An all of these people tagging venues and saying 'do better', this isn't doing better! Because she only cares about her own disability and doesn't realise that not everything is suitable for her!
The venue reached out and gave her an accessible option, which she refused. She caused a medical emergency that could have turned dangerous really quickly, for others around her, and she has the fuck'n gall to blame the venue!
