Hehe I love seeing your banner every time I go to your blog. It’s such a nice pic :>
thank you so much for saying that because now i have an excuse to ramble about that scene. first and foremost, i want to talk about how zoom's intention was not to kill barry.
he still had to take his speed. this was merely an act of violation. this might be a hot take, but i feel like there was a sexual undertone to the scene where he showed his finger inside of barry. even typing that out feels suggestive, but think about it. what purpose did that move serve? let me show you.
this was barry, beaten and bloody, clinging onto consciousness, but he still has that spark in him. look at the way he's looking at zoom. there's defiance in his eyes, even if it's subtle.
moving on, zoom shoves his finger in his abdomen. it's a relatively small injury compared to the other things he's done to barry, so what's the purpose? to stomp out the spark. to show that he did it, all because he could, because he was in control, and barry could do nothing but hang by his neck and take it, all while his friends were watching. that's such an intimate and violating way to show that he was in power.
at this point, barry is so far gone that he can't even lift his arms to push him away. he could have been possibly paralyzed from the neck down at this point because his spine injury was fresh. his limbs were twitching slightly, but there was no real movement.
now compare that first picture of him looking at zoom to this next one.
the defiance is gone from his eyes, and it almost looks like he's pleading. he's in so much pain that he can't even speak. he can't even see hunter's eyes, but he's looking into the black abyss behind the mask.
hunter could have vibrated his hand through his chest, made his heart stop, but he didn't want to kill barry just yet, he just wanted to get under his skin and take him apart from the inside, and he succeeded, even if temporarily, if you recall how barry wasn't able to walk even after he had fully healed. that was hunter's intention entirely.
another thing i'd like to add is that every time barry tilted his head, hunter tilted his too, because he was drinking in the sight of barry's inhumane suffering. god, i just know he had a shit eating grin under that mask, just watching barry's eyes go wide, listening to him gasp.
and to think that he didn't even have a personal vendetta against barry makes hunter even more terrifying. all the awful things he did were done out of pure enjoyment. this is what fulfilled him. yeah, sure, he wanted to get barry's speed and become faster, but it was never about how fast he could run, it was about how many lives he could stomp out on his way.
that's also why i think hunter was the scariest, and most cruel person that barry has gone up against. eobard had an end goal, but hunter just did it for the love of the game.
thank you for listening to the ramblings of a madman, and huge thank you to teddy sears for being a brilliant actor and replying to my comment where i asked him if he ships flashzoom. (he said “uh.... i mean yeah.”)
