i identify robby as being a type five, wing six. i disagree with interpretations of six being his core type— sixes are deferent and responsive to direction from authority. robby resists authority, as in his mind, his authority reigns supreme.

claudio naranjo describes type fives as exhibiting avarice and pathological detachment; avarice refers to greed, but this doesn’t mean gluttony. this combination of greed and detachment expresses a sense of scarcity and reservation as a response to the fear of one’s essential self being lost or permanently depleted.

the type five is highly vulnerable and even hypersensitive, reacting to their fear of imminent loss by attempting to remain apathetic or distant from anything that could leech off of their attention.

i think people interpret robby as being a core six rather than a core five because he’s in such a senior leadership role. however, i think so much of his internal torment exists because of these conflicting elements of his character. he’s extremely reticent to develop legitimate closeness with anyone for fear that he could irrevocably lose the scarcity of his being that he must protect— conversely, he cannot remain isolated completely or else he loses all sense of purpose.

robby has no reference point for himself without his work. i imagine him as being a satellite with an irregular orbital path around a star. his path dips closer to the star, then retreats. he swings between extremes of desolation and crushing pressure; either exerted to the point of explosion, or devoid of any external friction to the point of implosion.

robby was my first choice for analysis because his struggles are so well understood as the main character. i’ve also identified by mom as being type five so i already have a familiarity with that pattern of behavior. i hope this was comprehensive and shed some light on what makes robby tick. he is my favorite character by miles and very precious to me.
