First post and probably the most important— 

More than half of the world’s primates are on the road to extinction, mainly because of habitat degradation from logging (a very big industry!) and the bushmeat trade. 

But why should we care? Why focus on primates and not other types of animals?

Well, all animals big and small play an important role in the food chain, and of course, if one link comes out of place the whole ecosystem can collapse. 

Primates are a good focal point when talking about human impact on the environment. They actually play a key role in seed dispersal and keeping forests alive. They also have longer life cycles and fewer offspring, meaning hunting and deforesting can hit them hard, and it will take generations for them to bounce back! 

And we can’t forget that we humans are primates too— their extinction is ours as well.
