Prompt: Christmas markets with a little angst
The christmas markets were on again. Emily and I always go.
“Em the markets are on, you coming?”
“I have a DAR meeting.”
“I’m sorry that things aren’t going your way y/n.” She snaps. Tears fill my eyes.
“I never see you anymore, you never have time for me, I was hoping that maybe just maybe your make time to fulfil our favourite Christmas tradition. But I understand I’ll never be as important as your meetings.” I calmly tell her my voice thick with emotion as tears break free. “I’ll see you later Emily.” I say grabbing my keys and leaving that confining house.Â
I drive to the markets. arriving I see everybody having a great time laughing, talking, smiling my heart hurts as I remember all the fun Emily and I had at Christmas. After Christmas last year something changed. I don’t know what but Emily stopped spending time with me. I snap out of my daze and fix my face up.Â
I get out of the car and begin to walk around. I get to my favourite jewellery stall.Â
“Where’s Emily?” Jasmine the stall owner asks
“A DAR meeting.” I tell her bitterly
“These markets are your favourite tradition.”
“I know but I’ve been put on the back burner this year. I’m just not good enough for her or important to her.”
“I miss how we were, we’d always want to be with the other now she can’t wait to be away from me.”
“If she doesn’t get her act together she’s gonna lose the best thing that ever happened to her.”
“She already has. I’m done I can’t live like this anymore, I’m going to grab my things when I get back.”
“I won’t allow that.”
“Why aren’t you in the meeting?”
“I called and told them that I couldn’t make it.”
“You should’ve just gone.”
“Not I should be here with you where I’m supposed to be.”
“I’m not as Important as your meetings.”
“You’re right you’re more important and I’m sorry that I’ve made you think you’ve done something wrong, I’m sorry I didn’t sort out my priorities and I’m sorry for not being around, I will do whatever it takes to get us back to where we were.”
“I love you Emily that’s why it hurt so much when you didn’t want to do things with me anymore especially this.”
“I love you too which is why I’m here. Because you matter more than anything. Now fine let’s look.”
As we wander through the stalls with many bags my smile gets bigger than ever. Maybe we can fix things, but for now I’m going to enjoy the time I have with Emily doing our favourite thing.Â
Going home with a car full of of bags it all felt right. Falling asleep together for the first time in a while smiles in our faces everything as it should be. Maybe Christmas will be ok.
