❝ I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. [...] ❞
the discussion
“--you can’t possibly be considering sending her back to the circle.”
disbelief comes first-- the way his smile is lopsided in that of hopeful humor-- as if he’s half expecting hawke to burst out laughing, to tell him who do you think i am, some templar?
but his silence speaks in volumes, && anders doesn’t need to wait a moment longer to see that hawke’s in contemplation, thinking his options through.
“no, no you are, aren’t you.” his hands rise in disbelief before he inches closer to the man, voice low so that the young woman but 10 feet away cannot hear him. “hawke she’s just a child.”

@embracedestiny gets an Awkward Séaghdha™ starter!
'Damn it. Another dead end.'
Séaghdha let out a tense sigh, leaning heavily on his staff which sank further into the sand. Wiping his brow, he looked up at the rockslide that blocked their path - the third they'd come across. Who could have guessed the Western Approach would be so full of unstable sandstone? He narrowed his eyes, lips pressing into a pout. The Venatori had, apparently.
Their party had responded well to the ambush, even flanked as they were. They would have come through it relatively unscathed; something the Tevinter mages seemed to have realized, prompting them to resort to some more drastic tactics. They'd collapsed the tunnel, separating him from the rest of his group, and using his magic to clear the debris ran the risk of bringing the rest of the cavern down on top of everyone.
At least he knew his companions and friends had survived - they could still hear each other through the fallen stones and had agreed to try to rendezvous at one of the Inquisition's camps. Easier said than done, considering his tunnel had led him out into uncharted territory. 'It is good that you are not alone,' Cassandra had said before they set off.
He, however, wasn't so sure about that.
Not that he didn't like Garrett. He didn't know him well enough to have a very strong opinion on him one way or the other, truth be told, and he'd never been one to let someone's past color his opinion of their present. It was more the circumstances of their meeting that made Séaghdha continuously avoid eye contact and squirm uncomfortably whenever a silence lasted too long.
He'd just... stared when Varric introduced them. Stared, and stared, and stared. And the Inquisitor, not knowing at all how to react, had simply stared back as a lovely shade of red seeped into his cheeks. The impasse could have continued forever, as far as he could tell, had Varric not interjected his wit: 'Do you two need a moment alone.' Hawke had recovered quickly, all manners and charm. Séaghdha, however, had gone crimson to the tips of his ears, even going so far as to avert his eyes and cover his face.
He was mortified, and now they were stuck alone together for Creator's knew how long. Especially if they kept finding nothing but blocked passages and unclimbable cliff faces.
❝No luck here. We may have to backtrack again. Take that left, instead.❞ He said, pivoting at the waist and squinting into the light of the sinking sun in an attempt to pretend he could look at his companion without his face flushing. ❝Or, we find somewhere to camp?❞
Admittedly, between the battle and the heat, he was exhausted. He also wasn't entirely certain he wanted to be roaming predator-infested areas at night, and they were quickly losing the sun. But practical thoughts were interrupted when he realized his eyes had made accidental contact with the pair next to him. He looked away quickly, focusing on nothing in particular. True to form, his cheeks dusted pink.
❝There must be a cave or something somewhere...❞ he mumbled, pausing to chew his bottom lip. ❝What, ah... What do you think? It's not much of a plan, really, but...❞
"When hearing your voice before they see you, do people usually go 'I thought you were taller'?" Hawke asks as they're walking down the sandy path that leads along the shore, keeping his eyes on the horizon but sensing Fenris next to him. The elf has a presence that transcends the need to see him. "Because you have tall voice. At least my height. Maybe I'll even give you a few more inches - but only because it's not real competition."
(for Fenris :3 hi uwu)
it would seem he's grown used to small talk these days... and far more quickly than he'd have ever imagined it. hawke, of course, certainly makes it easy enough. and now, in places where he'd have once preferred a comfortable silence, fenris finds enjoyment in humoring the man.
and so— at the words— he pointedly huffs, seeing the question for what it actually is: there is no real seriousness to it. and that's fine, truly. he's coming to appreciate the merit of a gentle jest.
naturally, hawke continues to test him and his boundaries, here and there, by way of them. and though it certainly does not show in his lack of social graces, he is far from stupid. he sees the motive... and allows this.
" a tall voice? " he repeats, an interjection given with an eyebrow raised. he's notably curious if still cautious for any forthcoming ridiculousness. and of course— not even a breath later— there it is.
the huff that accompanies hawke's continuation is softer this time. and rather than following behind, fenris hastens his steps just enough to keep pace with the other man... and eye him as he responds, this time his answer given.
" i wasn't aware you could measure voices in inches. but to answer your question, no. few enough have been given the chance. "

‘ i promise we’ll figure this out . ’
The words seem to catch her off guard and her eyes flicker up towards Garrett’s face, wide and misty. It takes the sound of his voice for her to realize that her arms are wrapped tightly around herself and she’d pulled her knees into her chest and she’s breathing at a rapid, unsteady pace. Her shoulders relax some the longer she watches him and though it takes A WHILE, but eventually she reaches a hand up to dry her eyes with her sleeve.
It didn’t seem like all of this could get ANY BETTER. She’d had a responsibility she’d never wanted thrust on her shoulders and it felt like everything was spiraling. It was spinning out of her control and there wasn’t anything that she could to do stop it. “You PROMISE?” She questions, resting her chin on her knees as she gazes up at her cousin, “REALLY?”
‘what keeps you up at night?’
“Many things,” Eon said all too quickly. Though when he was pressed for it, he couldn’t think of anything specific. He took in a deep breath and leaned over his balcony. He would focus on one person as they walked through the courtyard, then find another as they walked out of view.
“I care far too deeply what other people think of me, and knowing that many hate me for things out of my control drives me insane. And I’ve made choices that are questionable-- but they don’t reflect me as a person. Someone I looked up hates me because of those choices. Actually, many do. Maybe I do.” Eon sighed and ran a hand through his silky silver hair. He stepped back into his study, taking a seat at his couch by the fire.
“Why, is it obvious I don’t get sleep?”
“what do you desire?”
