Komachi was a little nervous to approach Xander with the wrapped gift. She tried her best to make him the little cat statue, but she had no illusions over her skill. She just hoped that he'd recognize her effort and not take the poor quality as an insult. She took a deep breath before finally walking up to the prince and offering him the gift, "happy birthday, Your Highness."

          As she approaches, he looks up from his desk. His eyes ache a bit from reading over a rather wordy document, so he’s grateful for the reprieve ––– even if it’s only momentary. The corners of his lips tug up ever so slightly as he takes the gift into his hands.

          He’s never seen such a thing before. Or at least, he’s never seen it in Nohr. He’s read about them being a rather popular symbol of luck in Hoshido. And though he may not be fond of their sister country he can’t help but admit to himself that the cat itself is quite adorable. Whether he believed it would bring him luck though was something he would determine for himself later.

It was never easy to get Xander a birthday gift. What do you get someone who doesn't seem to really want anything in particular? It took Leo a little bit, but chess set finally caught his attention. He was sure Xander would appreciate the intricate detail, and chess was a game the two had bonded over for years. He figured he'd have to place the gift and a birthday note for Xander, but was pleasantly surprised to see his brother. He gave him a smile and handed him the gift, "happy birthday."

          Despite it being his birthday, Xander still found himself to be quite busy. Perhaps he took a few longer breaks here and there, but he still could find a quill in his hand or himself sitting at a meeting for the majority of it. So it’s nice to take a moment to breathe in the silence of the throne room. A few minutes away from the squabbling of others that was always a bit headache inducing felt necessary.

          When he hears the echoing taps of someone walking towards him he’s about ready to let out a sigh. The notion that it was time to get back to work taking over as he turns and stops at the sight of Leo. It only being his brother has his shoulders relaxing a bit as his eyes trail towards the gift.

Bernie leaves a little pitcher plant doll and a paper with a little heart on it at Ferdie's door before retreating.

          It doesn’t take him long to discover the little gift left outside his door. It takes him even less time to discern who the present was from. Bernadetta, as skittish and reserved as she was, was always thinking of others. So it only serves to have his heart leap at the thought before he takes it back into his room.

          He grabs a piece of parchment from his desk, and in his looped penmanship writes:

          It had been a few days since his father had sent him out on a separate mission from his younger siblings. Though he wouldn’t say it aloud or express it upon his features it was difficult. But he gives himself very little time to think about it. They were on opposite sides of the kingdom after all. So he gazes up towards the stars for a moment before his attention lands on the far off boarder that separates them their neighboring enemy.

          "You were friends with Edelgard.” The tone that immediately spills into his words is accusatory. It was a rare sight to see the other outside of her room giving the exiled prince little time to know her during their school days. He had always heard of her being defined as a recluse allowing him no true base to what her relationship was towards the empress. But nevertheless he can’t stop himself.

          The old buried part of himself wants to trust. To reach out a hand and know that those that joined from the Black Eagles had come here to help them achieve his goal of taking down the Empire. Yet, he couldn’t find himself shutting out the voices of phantom hands trying to pull him back in case of another betrayal. She was meek, but in the end he knows that means little. The smallest of people could create the biggest of waves. So his single eye watches her sharply as his jaw and every muscle in his body goes incredibly tight.
