Picking Up My New Ember Tetras And Pygmy Corydoras For My 45 Litre (12 US Gallon) Planted Tank!
I’ve just stocked my brand-new 45-litre (12-gallon) aquarium with some amazing little fish, and I couldn’t wait to share the process. For this setup, I really wanted to add something unique, so I headed over to Gateshead Guppies after hearing they had albino pygmy corydoras available. Their prices are always fair for my area, and after seeing the fish in person, I decided to pick up a mix of both regular and albino pygmies for the tank. These tiny catfish are full of personality, and the albinos in particular are such a rare treat. The shop owner was upfront and honest about having had some issues with the pygmy corydoras recently, so I knew there was a bit of risk involved. I really appreciated that level of transparency—it’s exactly what you want from a good local fish store. While I was there, I also spotted ember tetras, a species I’ve admired for years but never had the right setup for until now. Their fiery orange color makes them stand out beautifully in planted aquariums, so I grabbed a group to join the corydoras. When I got home, I carefully acclimated both species using the pipette method. This means slowly adding small amounts of tank water into the bag water over the course of a couple of hours. It’s a patient process, but it helps reduce stress and ensures the fish settle in safely. Once acclimated, I netted them into the aquarium and discarded the bag water. Some were hesitant to leave the net at first, which always makes for a funny moment when filming! At first, the ember tetras looked pale from travel stress, while the corydoras were shy and exploring cautiously. Within half an hour, the tetras started regaining their bright color, and by feeding time just a few hours later, both groups were eating confidently. I used micro granules, which sink slowly enough for the tetras to feed midwater, while still reaching the bottom where the corydoras could enjoy their share.
It's all coming together 😁🐠🦐🐸🥰 added more live plants🌱 #6gallon #aquascape #fishtank #neontetras #embertetras #peacockgudgeon #africanfrog #nerd #geek #gamerdad #pokemon https://www.instagram.com/p/B8o7Kb1Acgs/?igshid=8p9ygd9wdgqb
