for the ask meme, sannyo?
General opinion/How much I care about them: I like her 😄 Among the first three th18 bosses, Takane has probably become the one im most fond of overall, but Sannyo isn't far behind! She and her establishment are a fun bit of worldbuilding for youkai mountain and im happy that she's also a 'part-timer' at geidontei too n_n
A ship I love: i've seen a surprising variety of sannyo ships that people are willing to push hard! As of right now, my fav may be Sannyo/Mamizou in which komakusa-dayuu subtly teases Mamizou's inability to get one up over her.
(Also shoutout to her being one of maybe three people who go out of their way to talk to Nemuno)
A non-romantic relationship that I love: I like to think all the player characters from th18 would continue to make semi-regular visits to her gambling den in either the mountain (sanae), geidontei (sakuya, reimu), or both (marisa). She appreciates these human patrons for all the eccentricities, no matter how much they come to just loiter or act like they're looking for an incident (and everyone except Reimu probably leaves with less than they entered anyway). Sanae in particular is ever curious about youkai places of businesses, while Sakuya would be super professional (But would Sannyo see through the maid's sleight of hand tricks?!)
The NOTP: i think she might be too classy/professional for x reader stories where she takes a particular liking to an unassuming human customer at her den.. But i guess i can't entiiiirely rule it out 🤔
My biggest headcanon about them: she's going to catch the hearts of many humans in the village without even meaning to and people are going to forget geidontei's poster girl at this rate!!! (Well i guess they already do thanks to Miyoi's power 😛)
An idea for a fanfiction I would like to write/read about them: you can make a story with just about anybody visiting her establishment for any reason, meeting with Sannyo and then bouncing from there really.
But for something more specific, i think a stock story of her early days of defending her business on the mountain from greedy tengu loan sharks or something would fit her image 😄
Something that makes me think of them: Yorihime. Well, a part of my back is still particularly hurting a little, and i had a stray thought about how if i was gambling, she'd notice me straining and then blow her weird tobacco at me to soothe me 😮 (so that i'd have an easier time blowing all my money).
I really appreciate the sort of posts you've been making, where you spend the time examining the context, effects, and even where people could be coming from when you write your criticism of harmful behavior and ways of thinking when it comes to disability and anti-ableist topics. it just seems infinitely more helpful than the sort of snappy and often mean-spirited reactions I see a lot and am growing increasingly exhausted of... I know from my experience trying to move away from that sort of reaction towards one with a more measured and closer examination of context etc, that it is more draining and way less immediately-cathartic than the snappy responses to such things (whether those responses are just mental or voiced/shared). but it seems not only more helpful and likely to resolve issues rather than dismiss them, but also very important to anti-ableism to try to understand where people might be coming from instead of just knee-jerk going "hey that's bad" and even with this context of people responding with thought-ending dismissiveness, I can see where it probably comes from for a lot of people (from a place of mental exhaustion and the quick emotional pick-up that can come from these reactions). but it doesn't seem helpful and feels often harmful... so thank you for putting in the effort to come at things the way you do
thank you for this ask!! I'm usually at least trying to understand & talk about things in a thoughtful and/or responsible way....... lol
☕️ yukari and also yuyuko and maybe even yukari and yuyuko :o
my opinion of both is that they are the greatest touhous to ever milf. like with reimu (or honestly, like with just about any touhou ever), i could go on about all sorts of things about why i like em, but for this ask, uuuh...
Well, Yukari, its kinda funny for me to think about projecting or finding something relatable to the supposed most youkai-like youkai, a creature who is enigmatic and mysterious to other enigmatic and mysterious creatures, but I really do. Part of that is her whole thing as sage and gensokyo’s guardian/admin/gardener. She does everything in her power to save and protect the fantastical and mythical from being forgotten, while having the most disagreeable personality possible. Like i absolutely believed then early on in gensokyo’s formation, when she was looking for weak and helpelss youkai to invite, even though she just sincerely wants to help bring them to paradise, she chooses to do so by taunting them about their existential and sorry state. So i like her as this objectively altruistic force that's still unambiguously a terrifying (or annoying) multi-eyed horror.
....thaaaat said, Yukari’s relationship with Yuyuko, is also something i like a lot, and maybe something I peer at with more of a dark tinge than most. For sure, in present, they are super in love and have been for like forever, but nothing can be so simple when dealing with a ghost and a dimension monster :0!
So the way it goes as most fans (including me) say it does is that yukari got to know yuyuko when the latter was alive, and they got really close but yuyuko took her own life, and sometime after, yukari does the thing which made yuyuko into the super ghost she is now.
All sorts of emotions went into the process, no doubt, anything from Yukari wanting to give Yuyuko a second lease at life, to wanting to grant Yuyuko some wish of wanting to live in peace....
...But i think the biggest thing, that was at the back of Yukari’s mind at the time and in the present, is how Yukari felt hurt by Yuyuko ‘betraying’ her like that, and so Yukari did what she did as a form of revenge. I do believe necromancing a loved one back to life works best as a spur of the moment thing of driven by intense, not-all-positive emotions!
Adding on to that, I think Yuyuko is definitely aware of those emtions behind Yukari (though she probably like, forgets and then re-remembers every now and then), but is like totally fine and content with it, which maybe seems kinda boring but I like to imagine Yuyuko sometimes making an offhand snark at Yukari being possessive or something with the above as an example, thinking its just an amusing thing they can laugh about, but Yukari just goes pale and >_> every time.
anyway I like them both and i like this ship because its got this really personal horror element to it but can be/ is also just genuinely really sweet and intense mutual understanding of these two ageless beings.
☕️ hakurei reimu :3
^ me when i think about reimu
She’s great and i like her. Where and how would i even begin to start about why... I could literally go on forever about any number of little things, but i guess for this ask i shall stick to the one aspect i’ve been thinking her most lately. I’m just gonna ramble and not care if this sounds like mess.
So a thing that’s been played with by a lot of fanworks is how reimu is very much defined by her role as hakurei shrine maiden, right? its a job that makes up her whole identity. Its an idea that lends itself pretty easily to angsty premises, like how the burden of it all can be a lot to carry, or existential musing of how there might be no person under the title. Just as often though, I like to see it as Reimu being comfortably aware of her place in the world, and whether she knows it or not, she’s leaving a mark that’s uniquely her’s. (Its my headcanon that reimu is the one, or at leas the biggest person, responsible for setting up the spellcard system, making gensokyo’s coflicts less lethal than they might have been in the past). That’s all like, nicely contrasted to Marisa too, who I envision as being all about discovering and collecting and learning in order to expand her world and satiate her curiosity, as opposed to Reimu who is content where she is, even if she has her slumps here and there.
that aside, i would in a gist say that i think Reimu is the best (imo, but also objectively n_n). Literally every aspect of her that has ever been shown in canon, whether its her power, her greed, her elegance, her laziness, her merciless incident-resolving, or her lax mingling with people she beat up ten minutes earlier, it just all fits together wonderfully. Of course, my Reimu-loving glasses are always on so i think you could have her doing literally anything and i would find some way to make it fit and add to how good she is :0
