How to Identify Phishing Emails and Protect Your Data

Recognizing Deceptive Senders

The first line of defense against cyberattacks is verifying the source of every email you receive. Cybercriminals often use spoofed email addresses that look nearly identical to official business domains.

Always hover your cursor over the sender name to reveal the true email address.

Look for subtle misspellings or mismatched domains, such as using a public provider like Gmail instead of a company domain.

Check if the email address matches the official company communications you have received in the past.

Identifying Suspicious Content

Phishing emails are designed to trigger an emotional response or create a false sense of urgency. When the tone feels aggressive or unusual, pause and evaluate the message before taking any action.

Beware of messages demanding immediate action to avoid account suspension or loss of access.

Be cautious of generic greetings like Dear Customer instead of your actual name.

Look for poor grammar, spelling mistakes, or awkward phrasing that often slips past automated filters.

Safe Handling of Links and Attachments
