There were a lot more benefits to the bookstore than the paper, and Phoebe was enjoying every perk that was on offer. No more hours being wasted twiddling her thumbs because she wasn’t ‘trusted’ enough to do anything. No more lousy pay. No more Deb. And with the weather getting colder, it was just nice to stay somewhere warm and cozy for hours at a time, instead of being forced to run errands out and about.
She hadn’t worked in a store for a long time. Spencer thought it was a job beneath his ideal partner (though, in hindsight, she supposed his ideal partner didn’t work at all, and was dependent on him in every sense of the word) so she had spent her time working various temp office jobs before the PA job for Nilay fell into her lap. Then, of course, the internship. Now here, with a meeting with a real life literary agent booked in for next week, a mere train ride away to Chicago. It wasn’t promising anything, but it was a start. And that news alone was the only thing keeping her mood up these days. “Hi there!” She greeted as the bell above the door chimed indicating a new customer, excited that the otherwise quiet store was hopefully going to liven up, recognising Elspeth from the neighborhood. “How can I help today?”
