I just watched a movie called Tytöt Tytöt Tytöt (or Girl Picture in English). I saw a series of screen grabs on Tumblr and vaguely remembered hearing about it before. From my experience, Finnish tv shows are entertaining and range from decent to very good - but Finnish movies don't do much for me. Until this one.
Soft spoiler. For the first time ever, I cried during a movie. God I felt bad for one of the characters during her brothers birthday. It hit too hard. The scene, and the whole movie was so well executed and I quite liked how the situations didn't just get suddenly fully fixed in the end for any one of them. That character also felt very real, I know a lot of people like her. I also know a lot of people like Emma. Both had interesting stories for certain.
But Reetta was the standout character for me. I mean - ace representation? What? The person was so well acted and written, particularly considering what they were trying to portray. Another spoiler ahead. I felt like the guy from work was incredibly nice and they were good together. I was waiting for her to run into the subway or call him. And at the end it hit me, no matter how perfect and funny and great he was, she didn't feel anything for him. Gosh we need more of characters like her.
