AS SHE STOPPED TO CATCH HER BREATH ,     she looked back.      Eyebrow arched in that signature look ,   hand slipping on her hip.     It’s her tragic specialty isn’t it ?     Still managing to look like that   normal ,    run of the mill Queen Bee ,    your average teenage girl ,   mall-prowling and prom-planning and band-aid knees and all    –––    in the midst of all   THIS .     With the terrors of the world as her backdrop.     ❝   Are you   coming    or not ,   little J ?   ❞

“i got you something.” he neglected the knock on her door as he wandered in with a box of chocolate in his hands –– an attempt at buttering her up? maybe but he’d never admit to that out loud. “you did say you liked these, didn’t you?”

     ‘ i mean it, jenny. i wouldn’t lie to you. ‘

“you make it sound like you were dreading it.” he teased quietly, rolling onto his side to face jenny properly with one hand gently brushing her hair away from her face. only a couple of years before, he would have been someone who almost dreaded the thought of it. not for any reason other than that it had been entirely foreign territory for damien whilst still at boarding school and yet now, it would be hard to match him to that same boy. “are you okay?”

“you may be right about that.” a hand reached out to steal some from her, smiling a little as he popped it in his mouth with a soft hum. 

those words earned her his instant and full attention, although he tried not to make it too obvious that he had been waiting to hear it. every time he thought it was going to happen, jenny was running off and leaving him frustrated to say the least. catching her chin gently, he leaned in to lightly brush his lips over hers with a smirk. “not that i want to make you change your mind but are you sure?” he murmured quietly. really the last thing he wanted was for jenny to decide she didn’t want to but his question felt necessary. just in case she wanted to back out before anything even started.

“jenny, come on.” a sigh as he stood up to slowly move towards her –– sometimes, he really didn’t have the energy for this. but he would still try to calm her down, bring her back to him and reassure her. “is it really worth all this? i’ll make it up to you, you know you don’t mean it really. anything you want, i promise. just sit down.”
