Voters told Georgia's election board Wednesday they distrust the state's new voting system. Election officials said they'll audit and recount results.

Election system vendors are marketing ballot-marking devices (BMDs) as auniversal system for all voters, and some states are buying enough BMDs for all votersto use, rather than just for voters who need a BMD to vote independently. BMDs haveintrinsic security vulnerabilities: Like all devices with CPUs, they can be hacked, mispro-grammed, or misconfigured, so the paper printout from BMDs might not reflect what theBMD screen or audio confirmed to the voter.
Totenberg should order GA to do this:
"In parallel testing, trusted individuals use the Ballot Marking Devices (BMDs) to mark ballots with randomly generated preferences at random times on election day, and sound an alarm if the BMD printout does not match their input. Parallel testing of BMDs has never been done by any jurisdiction—nor does such testing hold promise. In practice, parallel testing requires an impractical amount of testing on election day to have a large chance of detecting outcome-changing errors (from malware, bugs, or misconfiguration). Even if the amount of testing needed to have a reasonable chance of detecting outcome-changing errors were far smaller, parallel testing would require extra BMDs, new infrastructure for creating test patterns (combinations of votes, ballot language, duration of voter interaction, input and output interfaces, time of day, etc.), new infrastructure for reporting test results, additional polling-place staff, and additional staff training. Andif parallel testing discovers an error, the only remedy is to hold a new election: there is no way to reconstruct the correct election result from an untrustworthy paper trail."

A warning from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security told Georgia election officials to be on guard for hacking, misinformation campaigns and other disruptions before last November's election.
"Last July, a Russian agent visited election websites in Cobb and Fulton counties but didn't gain access to election systems, according to the Secretary of State's Office.
