The thing about an eldest sibling having lived in a parental role, missing out on their childhood, and wanting to let go of all that responsibility theyβve been used to and be taken care of instead is that, itβs not so simpleβnot that anything ever is. They want space, they want care, but most of all, they want connection, and in a way, when the younger siblings grow up and stop needing them so much, it simply feels like theyβre losing that connection. Yes, probably like some parents feel seeing their kids grow up, move out, stop asking for advice or help, etc. It feels selfish asking them to care (the way they want to be cared for) because for so long, the goal has been to let them live and grow and learn the way they (the eldest sibling) never got to. It feels like being too much (as theyβre often told they are). They donβt want to feel like a burden (theyβve been the ones who always took it, and they didnβt do it so they could ask for a return or a reward one day). They just donβt want to be a beggar for emotional availability.
