The New Charis Mission (TNCM)
Since November 2015
TNCM is a halfway house that provides a holistic rehabilitation programme for the ex-incarcerated. Volunteering is a part of their rehabilitation programme. Through the volunteering experience, volunteers and the ex-incarcerated work hand in hand to help elderlies living in poverty.
Other than having the opportunity to give back to the community of elderlies living in poverty, I was also exposed to social work skills (e.g. Interviewing of clients, case report writing, application of government schemes etc.)Ā
I am deeply humbled by the experience of volunteering with working with the ex-incarcerated community to see how volunteeringĀ can empower them by giving them a sense of purpose and chance for personal reflection.Ā

I knew I was different. I cared about different things. I got defensive over little things, some not even about me. But I really felt different when I realized, I donāt respect my mom. āRespect your elderliesā was a rule made up somewhere by someone. And if we didnāt follow that rule, weād be āfrowned uponā I had my own rule. I will respect those who respect me. My mom is sexist, sheās unfair, sheās rude, and sheās hypocritical. I canāt respect her. I want to, but I canāt. I donāt feel bad for writing that, but I feel bad for not feeling bad. I guess thatās just me.
