Unexpected and unplanned Kazetsuyo pilgrimage XD
Today we arrived to our next stop in our 2-week trip, to Hakone. We planned to stay in our hotel most of the time, but then I saw that poster about an ongoing Kazetsuyo event in the area. Unfortunately I couldn't fit in all 5 stations, so I won't get the reward but those 2 I got are more than enough. The cardboard boys were a cute extra.
Each year amateur and professional teams of runners compete in various long-distance relay races called ekiden. The most prestigious of these is the grueling two-day Hakone Ekiden held on January 2 and 3.
Winter is ekiden season. The first such long-distance relay was held in 1917 to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Tokyo becoming the capital of Japan. Stretching some 500 kilimeters from Kyoto to Tokyo along the old Tōkaidō highway, it took three days to complete.
Today, there are around 100 competitions held each year, one of the most prestigious being the two-day Hakone Ekiden. Held on January 2 and 3, the race pits university teams in an all-out dash from Tokyo to the hills of Hakone and back again.
This anime is just made for me! I love sports anime as a genre and I’m a huge fan of running so combing the two is a winning combo for me! Especially since the anime is about the Hakone Ekiden!
