It's hard for them to ask for it because they're so boundary minded, and tend to be really careful about hugs. But they do enjoy them, especially if they are tight and let them kind of rest against someone for a while. Those kinds of hugs tend to come with someone they are especially comfortable with, which doesn't really come around all that often.
If someone wanted to calm them down, their hands is an easy place to start, just hold their hand. Give it a good squeeze and that does a lot for them knowing that someone's looking out for them. Or on their shoulder is a good spot for them to be touched too - if someone wanted to get their notice that way.

I think hands is a good choice, waist/hips would probably be a great spot to touch them if they close with. Hell, running a hand along the side of their face could probably get you a good reaction from them. Or a hand resting on their lower back.
Honestly, as long as you're respectful with this initial touch one could get away with touching pretty much anywhere. They are very aware of what that could say about them.
They know full well that they desire touch a lot more than they let on. But asking for it, and knowing who is willing to indulge them with that is.. another thing altogether.
