I have made the argument before when people complain about fantasy worlds being static that there were no world-changing technologies created between the plow and the printing press. People scoff. I was trying to figure out how to make my Eisen village different from every other medieval village, so I started to look up regional specialties of the Black Forest. The only part of the tracht people ever talk about- the Bollenhut- 1750 Notable artists? 19th century Cuckoo clocks? 18th century Cego? After 1805 Black Forest Cake? 1915 So... all medieval and renaissance towns really were identical. I guess it's known for... glassblowing and I have to make the town interesting just based on that.
