The upper echelons of the Batarian Hegemony are a minefield. One wrong move, and your entire family will be cut down mercilessly, sent to the slave pens for the crime of dissent. Such is the world Tovik Khesnakk was born into. As the elder son of a high-caste family, it was his responsibility to marry a woman chosen for him at birth for the familyâs political gain. Unfortunately, he and his betrothed, Rechia Dhacâkodrak, hated each other on sight. After ten long years, he was eager to put as much distance as he could between himself and KharâShan. Once the marriage contract was complete and he was free to leave, he and Rechia couldnât divorce each other fast enough, and with his brother Matan he fled to Omega, finding work as hired guns for Aria TâLoak. There, away from the Hegemonyâs incessant propaganda, thinking about how horrid being born into nobility was grew into thinking about how truly cruel and awful the entire system was, and he gradually fell in with a new crowd -- the anti-Hegemony resistance. Unfortunately, the Resistance wasnât the only group with a low opinion of the Hegemony, which Tovik found the hard way. When the news of the tragedy at Mindoir broke, an enraged drunk decided to attack the first batarian they saw, and it just happened to be Tovik. One bar fight later, Tovik was missing his upper right eye. Shortly after, his eye still bandaged, he found himself the begrudging mentor figure to two of Ariaâs new recruits, the turian Axilus Madelivio and quarian ThieâHaasn. Despite the twoâs significant misgivings about batarians, they managed to get along, and when they offered him a place with their newly-formed pirate gang, he couldnât find a reason to say no.
