MY PERSONAL OPINION ON CHAPTER FIVE OF POPPY PLAYTIME
⚠️ WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD ⚠️
(Please Exultian don't read this if you’re gonna watch a gameplay of 4/5)
So to start out, I’m not going to be bashing the hell out of this chapter just because majority says it sucks.
My personal opinion is that chapter 5, for sure isn’t the best, but definitely is not as bad as most people put it out there. Like overall the only things I saw an issue with is this story and how it was played out and the amount of puzzles.
Like for example, I love puzzle games a lot, and enjoy doing them when I have time to, but honestly it kinda felt like each challenge was just one after another and it felt kinda like filler. Obviously I’m not one to critique since I don’t do game development, but since I have experience with story writing and comic book story telling I think I can at least state that filler is always a good thing when used in moderation.
But it does have a limit, and I feel that PPT was definitely just barely pushing that fine line between too much and just right, don’t get me wrong I love the connecting charges and batteries. But since it’s what we’ve been doing since chapter 1, maybe variation could help. Yes, they did introduce their new fire/ice hand, but I personally feel it’s a little too similar to what the green hand did with the timer.
Also the whole Chum and Giblet leaving you behind to explore yourself felt like a grab just to have the user go do more puzzles.
Now, one thing I did love is the return of Harley Sawyer in chapter 5. He was by far one of my favourite characters either than Doey or Yarnaby (yes, they’re all chapter four characters, I like them)
We often don’t get the opportunity to have narcissistic and egotistical characters that get pushed out there and shown to a crowd as the monster they are. I feel that originally in chapter four without me knowing about his revival I would have been devastated with the fact that he wasn’t the main focus of the chapter at all. He was a well written character, but his death being so soon mildly irked me, thus why I was ecstatic to realize he was still alive.
But, obviously there’s still issues with other characters such as Chum and Giblet, who I quite liked and was disappointed to find out that they were only there for about a quarter of the entire game, even less with Chum. I was happy to see Giblet at the end making an appearance, but still kinda disappointed we didn’t get more of the duo.
Moving on to the most hyped part of the entire chapter, the prototype. I agree with the vast majority in thinking that his design was amazing and I was very satisfied with him being a Jack in the box type character. I love the voice boxes change and the way he strolls in with a pretty epic introduction, but again, I really wish he had more screen time.
His chase scene was good, and definitely the player getting stabbed made me actually pretty surprised. But I feel that a lot of his appearance depended on moving the story forward not to actually be bad ass.
Lilly was an interesting character as well, but I overall kinda disliked her since the timed runs and chases kinda felt boring, I liked the game where you have to find every doll for the tea party, but I kinda don’t understand the hype after actually seeing her, though the irony of Mrs Gracie wanting to be a soft toy and then being turned into pure plastic is very amusing.
Now to go back to my issues, I felt somehow like the games story moved too slow and too fast at the exact same time. The story was good, believe me when I say that, but it felt very rushed towards the end and honestly the rest of the games story felt really, really sluggish.
(I also felt like the Outimals should’ve gotten more of a spotlight)
I’ve been here since chapter three and believe every chapter has its flaws, but this one definitely had quite a few.

Overall rating for this chapter I’d have to put it here on the list: (not in any specific order just my ratings
Chapter 3 - For it’s design and execution it gets an 8/10
Chapter 4 - Story was amazing, but again it felt kinda disappointing, 8.5/10
Chapter 1 - Honestly for a start out to a series, it’s good. But since it’s also a start out it was just pretty short 6/10
Chapter 5 - Definitely not the best, not the worst either, 7.5/10
Chapter 2 - Goated, still pretty short and felt kinda bland, but goated, 7/10

Overall all chapters were good so far, so hopefully it stays that way, but taking some people’s criticism into consideration.
